I think it was more or less based of a Zebra but still, I've yet to complain about a Pokemon design. Some I like less than others but I've never stopped playing because of one Pokemon.

BESIDES THAT INFERNAPE IS LEGIT ONE OF MY FAVORITE POKEMON

    I like monkeys ._.

I mean, obviously it's based off a zebra too, but there's often more to what a Pokemon might be based off than the obvious stuff. And that's good that you didn't stop playing, or else you'd have stopped at Red/Blue/Green.

Started with Gold and I never had a dislike for a single Pokemon until Infernape came out.

Wait for real? I just really like Scizor xD

He looks cool while also being a very effective fighter. I've been meaning to train one up in Pokemon Y.

I recommend Technician and Bullet Punch, plus Night Slash, Iron Head, and X-Scissor. You'll kill.

I'm training one in Soul Silver to transfer over to Y because Super Power is a great move for Scizor and there's no other way to get it...

    Several things.

I really feel like people like to cherry pick when they say this. Don't get me wrong, I think pokemon had bad design the whole way through and I don't this it's gotten all that much worse as an average thing if at all even, but I do think that the ugliest and least inspired sets of pokemon in existence always come from the newest generation or two and the best looking pokemon are always from a few generations back. Like I don't play these games or anything but based on the art they show on the wiki that I've been through almost all of. I also don't like that they changed the art style, the new shading looks slovenly and bad.

Bruce Lee was more of a puncher, though. Like he could clearly kick, but that was not his gimmick.

You're gonna have to explain why you think I'm so hideous.

Thing is, all of that is ultimately subjective. I can try to defend the new generations or praise the old generations all I want, but nobody can make a definitive rule as to what constitutes a good or bad design for a Pokemon. And though I do prefer the older art style, I still like the new one.

I know I know, you're taking things a bit too literally. Was just trying to defend Hitmonlee >.>

I like Weavile. It's a very effective combatant whenever I've used one, and I've been nearly swept by one a few times. And I like its design, being based off of a weasel demon. It looks fine to me *shrug*

I get you. For something like pokemon I generally put it on a continuum of looks good vs looks bad on one axis and inspired vs uninspired. A really good example of that is something like Voltorb is really dumb looking but it's actually relatively inspired because it was designed to look like other objects and thus shows a certain level of biomimicry or at least an interest in game design. On the flip side Beedrill looks pretty cool but it's just a big bee with nothing really unique about it.
Well, the whole point of the naming was that it was ironic to begin with because Jackie Chan was better at kicking than punching in fact ridiculous jump kicks were kinda his thing in some of his movies.

    Whatever man.

Can't we all agree Tyrantrum has the best design?

alright i guess as long as we're talking about pmon designs ill throw my ¢2 in as well

on the whole i do like the newer gens a lot less -- there just aren't as many that grab me like in older ones, but that said there are still a lot that i really like. each gen has their ups and downs basically. i just think newer ones have more downs

and i cant quite articulate what and why, but there's something about the style of the newer gens that i don't care for. i think the designs are too... busy(?)

like i look at the starters for gens 1-4 and they're all fairly minimalistic, but then i look at 5 and 6 and there's a lot more edges and lines
