    Chapter I: Demesne

Three strange men walked the long corridor of the castle before they entered the large doors that led into the Great Hall. Never before had strangers like these been in the castle upon the hill of the large city. People had been coming through the castle ever so often nowadays searching for support and other ways to recover from the disastrous incident. The castle was buzzing with life day in and day out, but she got the feeling that these strangers didn’t want what the other people of the city wanted. Their demeanor was much more business-like and serious. Finally, the men stopped in front of the throne where a woman was waiting to greet them.
“Welcome to our castle, my name is Eclipsia, one of two princesses of this great city. Tell me, what have you traveled all the way here for?” Eclipsia was tall and slender. She had long, wavy blonde hair. She had a hint of purple in her eyes.
“Thank you for having us in your castle. Where is the king and queen?” one of the men asked. He had long black hair and his voice was strict and cold.
“Away, on business, after the attack on our city the king and queen had to leave and speak to our kingdom’s allies about what it is we will do next.” Eclipsia said this with a somewhat serious tone in her voice. With the King and Queen gone, it was necessary for her and her sister to look after the town and aid its people.
“Anyway, we have strict orders from a Mr. Rufus Shinra.” the black haired man explained.
“Rufus Shinra?” Eclipsia stood, she pondered the name for a moment before finally realizing who they were talking about. “Yes, Mr. Shinra of Shin-Ra Electric Power Company. I know exactly who you speak of.” Eclipsia smiled, she seemed pleased by the fact that she knew who Rufus Shinra was. “What are these ever-so-strict orders he has sent you here for?” Eclipsia stood still, waiting for the man that seemed to be their leader to explain himself.
“Rufus Shinra has heard of the corrupted state your city has been put in by ‘Him‘.” the man replied. “We work in the Investigation Sector of General Affairs Department of Shin-Ra Inc., also known as Turks. Since your city has been attacked by the same man that our city has been trying to stop, Rufus felt it necessary to send us here on business.” the man stood still, waiting for Eclipsia’s reply.
“Well then, what do you need from us? Is there something that we need to do?” Eclipsia looked confused, how did any of this involve the city’s royals other than helping rebuild what had been damaged?
“Mr. Shinra has called upon a black-op and we need some outside help. Since most people can only cast spells using Materia, Rufus told us to find someone who uses magic as a natural ability. It is all in an effort to find the man who has caused terrible destruction upon the cities of The Planet.” the black haired man said.
“One moment, I still don’t understand, what do you need someone who uses magic for? Is it all part of this operation?” Eclipsia once again looked confused.
“Yes, this operation is top-secret. We do not know all the details as to why he needs someone with this magic ability. He has told us limited information, with hopes that we will bring back that person. We assume whomever this person is, they will be of some use to us in our search for this man. Besides, we will have the utmost protection for whomever that person may be. Now, back to the reason why we are here, do you know a person of whom I speak?” the black haired man waited for an answer, hoping that the princess knew someone with that magical capability.
“Yes, I do know someone like that.” Eclipsia exhaled. “My sister is the absolute only one in this city, in this kingdom, who is able to cast spells without Materia. She is not only able to do this, but she is also a exceptional navigator. When she was younger, she would look at maps of places all around The Planet and study them for hours on end. I think she could help you on your travels.” Eclipsia was worried. What if her sister was put in some sort of terribly dangerous situation? The man that caused the destruction of their kingdom is the same man that these Turks are searching for. That already meant trouble when she thought deeply about it.
“That is good news, Rufus will be pleased to hear this. Now, is there a way we can meet your sister?” the black haired man questioned.
“Let me take you to her right now. Follow me." Eclipsia stepped down from the throne and led the black-clad men out the Great Hall into the corridor. Eclipsia walked into a long hallway being flooded with light by the large windows that lined the hall on the right side. On the left side of the same hallway, freshly watered flowers were sparkling in the sun because of the water droplets on the pedals. They reached the large wooden door at the end of the hall with a gold-plated sign engraved with the name “Athena” above the door. Eclipsia opened the door leading into the room calling Athena, her sister, at the same time.

    Chapter II: The Greeting

“Princess Athena? Sister? We have guests.” Athena was outside, on her balcony that had a beautiful view of the horizon. Athena’s balcony had the perfect view of the crystal clear lake that was surrounded by flowers of dazzling colors. Over to the right, a forest with the greenest trees. Just behind the forest? Large, snow-capped mountains. The snow on those mountains glistened to the point of blindness. Athena turned around and smiled to her sister and the men.
“Hello sister, hello there gentlemen. My name is Athena, Eclipsia’s sister and the other princess of this kingdom.” Athena, like her sister, was tall and slender. She had long, straight, black hair terminating in length at the small of her back. Her eyes were crystal blue, she wore a long, sleeveless, white silk dress. Around her neck was a green amulet that was shining in the sunlight.
“Sister, these men are the Turks. They work for Rufus Shinra of the Shin-Ra Electric Power Company in another city. They were just in the Great Hall with me informing me of the man who they are after.” Eclipsia explained to Athena.
    “What man?” Athena asked.
“The man who destroyed the western part of the city.” Eclipsia said.
“Oh thank goodness you are here. We have been doing our best to recover from the incident, but our efforts aren’t enough. We need to find this man and stop him for good.” Athena said, although that wasn’t the exact response the men were probably looking for.
“We have a request to consult with you. Your sister told us that you can use magical power without Materia, and that you are also an excellent navigator. Is this true?” the black haired man asked.
“Correct, I can cast spells without any kind of Materia. I am the only one in this entire kingdom that is capable of achieving that. As for the navigating, I have never been to the places I have studied, but I have been studying geographical maps for as long as I can remember.” Athena looked proud of herself, waiting for the men’s reply.
“Very good.” the man with the sunglasses said. This was the first time Eclipsia or Athena heard the man speak, they expected his voice to be much more rugged when in fact it was smooth, just like his disposition.
    “Indeed.” Eclipsia stated.
“Now, what is all this talk of a request that is in need consulting?” Athena didn’t know what the men wanted, but since they asked about her magic, it was only logical to imply that they wanted something related to that subject.
“Our boss, Rufus Shinra, has requested that we bring back with us someone who has the capability of using magic without Materia. As we told your sister, this is a top-secret operation and you would be briefed directly by Shinra himself, your sister told us of you and how you are capable of this and navigation. The navigational skill is actually a bonus because we will be traveling all over searching for the man that did this to your city.” the man said.
“I see. Where you come from, are the cities technologically advanced?”Athena felt the need to ask. She stared at one of the men’s weapons. It was a metal rod of sorts. She didn’t know exactly what it was or what it did. The man seemed to notice her eyeballing his weapon.
“It’s an Electro-Mag Rod.” the man said. The man was tall and slender, somewhat lanky. His unkempt red hair was in a long ponytail. Under his green eyes he had two symmetrical red markings on his cheek bones. He was wearing goggles that were pushed up to his forehead.
“Huh?” Athena said, finally snapping out of the trance she was in.
The man laughed, “I know, I know, you like what you see.” Athena ignored the comment.
“And you are?” Athena stood, with her hands folded and in front of her.
“Reno.” Athena could already tell that Reno was cocky and somewhat lazy. She assumed laziness by the state of his outfit. He was wearing the same black business suit as the rest of the men except his suit jacket was unbuttoned, and his dress shirt untucked.
“Rude.” The man with the sunglasses finally revealed his name when she turned to look at him.
“Tseng.” The man with the long, black hair stated. From the beginning, Athena knew that this man was the leader of the group of black-suited men. He was the one doing all the speaking as he briefed Eclipsia and her on their mission.
“Tell me, Athena, what are your magical capabilities.” Tseng asked.
“I can cure and use fire spells. They are the two magical abilities that I have mastered. They are very useful.” Athena loved being able to cure people. She had volunteered at the city’s hospital quite a few times to help heal some of the sick.
“Your fire spell, what does it look like?” Reno asked. He was leaning against the wall with his arms folded.
“Your hair.” Athena smiled, pleased by her quick wit.
“Attitude, I like that in a woman.” Reno smirked to himself. Once again, Athena brushed off the comment. It was going to be a long journey because of Reno’s sarcasm and cocky behavior.
“Well then, we’d better get ready to head off if we want to get back to the headquarters by tomorrow afternoon.” Tseng said as he looked at his watch. “Athena, you should pack a few things that you might need.” Tseng turned to Rude. “Rude, call and tell them to get the airship over here if we want to get going.” Athena grabbed her small traveling bag and started to pack. First thing to go in her bag was a supply of Materia that she stored away as a precaution, and her good luck charm….her Mako Stone.
