I tried downloading Portal off of Steam, when it was free, and it finished downloading successfully. However, when I try to play, I get the Valve logo and stuff, and then it closes the game. Is it an issue with hard drive space or something?
What is your graphics card/RAM and stuff? Maybe your computer doesn't meet minimum requirements for the game. Here are some of the requirements.
I have 2.99 GB of RAM, which appears to be more than enough. Not sure about my graphics card, but I think it's a Mobile Intel(R) 945 Express Chipset Family. I'm no computer genius, but I'm guessing that my graphics card isn't good enough to run it. That about right?
Intel is generally bad when it comes to gaming, unfortunately. I also have an Intel graphics card, and Portal loads, but it takes forever. There are also a lot of games my laptop can't handle because of the graphics card, so that could be the problem.
Yeah, I kinda figured my computer couldn't handle it, but I just wanted to make sure. Time to go mooch off of my sister's computer. =D Excuse my clear stupidity, but what's shared memory?
thats not true, its just that any integrated graphocs card sucks, it has nothing to do with intelif this is a desktop computer, I highly recommend you buy a graphicscard, because its 100% the (lack of a good) graphics card.
