Pop songs. Do all of them suck or are some of them good?

Pop, for me, is usually a hit and miss. I either like it or hate it with a passion. Pop, in general, isn't bad but for most people it just gets annoying after you listen to a song everywhere you go because it's so popular.

    Depends on your personal tastes.
I've seen most members here hating on the mainstream.
I, personally, am a big fan of mainstream music.
I don't think the fact that they become so popular is bad so much as when they're overplayed.
That said, some artists try WAY too hard to appeal to everybody and their songs suck, despite the potential.

It wouldn't exist if all pop songs sucked. I think I have one or two "pop" songs in my iPod. Although I'm more of a rocker myself. @-@

I can say without a doubt that the only pop artist I have ever enjoyed listening too was MJ, and he is sadly gone now. And pop that is currently going around is very different, and not very good in my opinion. To me, it just seems shallow and repetetive. Thats why I like rock and metal- it just holds more meaning for me and sounds a lot better IMO. Pop is done by famous stars loaded with cash who have perfect bodies. Rock is done by rough, gritty people who probably grew up in a harsh area and struggled for years to get where they are. You know, real people, as opposed to plastic models prancing around in pretty outfits muttering into a mic.

And which of these is more likely to sound impressive- that you spent many years learning to play guitar or that paid some nerd a load of cash to synthesise some music for you?

Some pop songs are good some bad, it really is hit or miss.
Ke$ha and Justin Bieber pop is what I like to call generic pop- Every single song is about hooking up with a guy or girl
There are bands out there like Hot Chelle Ray(if you have ever heard of them) who fit in the pop genre but sound good and have decent lyrics.
Here is and example of one of Hot Chelle Rays songs

You just have dig around for good pop these days...

Its the same as with any genre to be honest; some good, some bad. No genre completely sucks, just as no genre gets it right every single time.

I personally can normally be found outside of the mainstream, but the past couple of years I've found myself treading water there more and more often <3

This. It really depends on what mood I'm in, although usually I don't really listen to Mainstream unless it's well, good, which in my opinion is hard to find nowadays :c

I thought that I would point that out. xD

It's kind of like how the rap industry is.
Most people who don't like it point out what they rap about (money, hoes, etc.) but they're only thinking about what's been called as "ringtone raps" (Think of Crank Dat Soulja Boy) when there is better (and usually) older and more meaningful rap songs out there.
Pop I listen to when I'm in a good mood that makes me want to dance. Or at a party or something.

I honestly don't know what pop is, is it like Britney Spears or Christina Aguilara? (sp?)
or is it Backstreet Boys? Well i guess i like pop then. But like everyone else says it can be a hit and a miss just like every other genre there is. I dont really like Justin Bieber because he seems to remind me of the Naked Brothers band and they are horrible. Now i like Miley Cyrus to some extent, as long as it does not sound anything like Hannah Montana

There are pop songs that sound like alternative/dance but they are pop songs. Example the song"Fool for love." by stefy does NOT sound like pop song. But when I bought it and scrolled to the side to see the genre I was like ohhhhh. And i like some of mileys songs but it depends to a extent...

In my opinion (now this is coming from a Marilyn Manson fan so I think you can probably understand) I think most Pop is pure bullshit!-I mean what the **** is it? A load of 12 year olds singing about how they 'love' this ****tyy girl they have nevr met?? But in fairness there have been Really good songs in that genre-I actually secretly have acquired a taste for Lady GaGa and Lily Allen-but thats only cuz there weird in a nice way xD

Snow has a point. Most of rap songs that you hear on the radio that usually talk about money and hos isn't the only rap out there. Most mainstream rap in my opinion sucks because it's not original but some of the underground rap is pretty good and actually have a meaning or story worth listening to.
