I'm not so stuck on the fact of obvious changes from sprites to 3D, I can deal with that. I'm just hoping the story will be good, and the pokemon will be somewhat reasonable. It's been sorta apparent they haven't been as classy as the earlier generations, so I'm hoping for a comeback if any.

For the most part, it did. It's like an HD rerelease on XBL or PSN, fundamentally the same game with most of the same assets, just with things a bit more cleaned up and polished.

Pokemon was the main reason I did get a 3DS. I was under the impression Gen V was going to be on it. Was mistaken and upset, but now... Pride my friend.

I was always sure they would make a Pokemon game for the 3DS given how every Nintendo handheld has had a Pokemon game.

I was always curious as to how they would do that, but now I have my answer.

Well regardless, the 3DS is backwards compatible to the DS, so you weren't missing much but yeah. It was bound to happen though.

After watching the trailer for...I dunno which time this was, I'm convinced Fennekin's evolution line will include a Fire/Psychic combo. Makes sense with the whole fox mythology (kinda like Vulpix/Ninetails,) and if we go by the moves we saw in the trailer, then Froakie will eventually become Water/Ice. Absolutely no clue what Chespin will become along with Grass...

And I personally love the new 3D graphics. It's like finally getting to play Pokemon Stadium on the go. And I really hope we can customize our trainers for once.

    Well, rumors are saying:

    Fennekin: Fire/Psychic
    Froakie: Water/Fighting
    Chespin: Grass/Dark

I think this would work really well. Personal bias against Psychic types (as I want a Fennekin to call Mozilla) would prefer something like this:

Fennekin: Fire/Dark, could work with it being a fox.
Froakie: Water/Psychic, the design looks like its wearing glasses, after all.
Chespin: Grass/Fighting, Similar to Tepig and Torchic, it could evolve from cute and harmless looking to a badass fighter.

Of course, if Fennekin turns out to be Psychic, I can grab a Froakie to fill my Water type and Fighting type needs and continue to use a Typhlosion like I have been since Diamond.

Of course, if Game Freak continues to insist on retreading the Fire/Fighting ground:

    Fennekin: Fire/Fighting
    Froakie: Water/Dark
    Chespin: Grass/Psychic

That last one is unlikely based on the designs (even if it does worry me that I think that Fennekin looks like it could evolve into a FIghting type), but I had to include it for cynicism's sake.

Ultimately, any of these combinations would work because Fighting/Dark/Psychic is a triangle separate from Fire/Grass/Water and would allow for what Gen IV was probably trying to, but failed due to Empoleon ultimately being weak to both Infernape and Torterra. Regardless, Gen IV remains my favorite set of starters in terms of game mechanics, entirely BECAUSE of the fact that all three got second types.

Oooooh, I like the idea of Chespin becoming a Grass/Fighter :D Breloom is an awesome hybrid of the two.

I really really REALLY don't want Fennekin to become ANOTHER Fire/Fighting. We've had 3 in a row now. We do not need another :\

Froakie I think will become Water/Psychic or Water/Ice, though I'm leaning more towards the first because of the glasses and beard-looking thing. Could be like a frog master thing you see a lot in anime.

The official Pokemon website has been updated this morning, revealing the names of the two legendary Pokemon revealed in the trailer for Pokemon X and Pokemon Y. The blue one is named Xerneas (ZURR-nee-us) while the red one is named Yveltal (ee-VELL-tall). These names are confirmed for international languages as well.

Not confirmed officially yet, but here's some (probably true) info on the Legendaries:

-Xerneas is based on Shishigami (forest spirit like this thing in Princess Mononoke) and possibly Boreas, the Greek God of North Wind [Grass/Fighting?]
-Yveltal is based on Yatagarasu (three-legged crow that represents the sun), and possibly represents South, if Xerneas represents North [Dark/Flying?]
-"Z"-named Legendary has something to do with rivers...serpentine, in all probability, to represent the letter "Z", possibly based off of the shachihoko

Also, I found some speculation on various forums (ok one) that Chespin's line is military themed (love this),

And here's a neat fan-made theory of the final forms for the starters. I really like all of them:

I like how I updated you guys about that much earlier then DT and then got ignored. Ha. My world.

As for up above with the types, They could just be pure instead of having a secondary type. I really REALLY do not want another fire/fighting type however. That is just getting old.

My bad dude, I got lost with the majority of the posts debating on the 3D aspect of the game. Still, you, DT, and libregkd are all credited for the info in the OP.

I think something like a Fire/Steel type might be cool. It'd be really weak to ground, but nothing's perfect. Plus, I think we need more steel types that have cooler subtypes

Personally loving steel type Pokemon, I don't think its right for the starters. It made Empoleon much weaker really. I cant see Psychic grass either because of bug type 1 hitting it each time. Fire psychic I can see however. I can see grass Dark. I can see Water/ice, although I see the white puff on him to be clouds which leads me to believe he will be water flying. But take your pick. We wont know for a while.

Empoleon was fine and the Steel type
Empoleon's Steel type benefited it more than people give it credit for due to being weak to both of the other starters (which had to be an oversight on Game Freak's part). It has good Special Attack and Special Defense and decent Attack and Defense and a crap load of resistances (as well as having Water's weakness to Grass neutralized). Really, like most of the other starters, it isn't something that hardcore metagamers would take seriously (of course, the only starter most of them take seriously is Swampert due to it's Water/Ground typing), but is still a solid Pokemon to use in most parties.

Also, I don't think x4 weakness is something Game Freak is worried about, after all, Swampert has a x4 weakness to Grass.

The only three second types I can see them doing for the starters is Psychic, Dark and Fighting because it gives an opportunity to balance the starters in terms of typing. On top of the fact that it helps players, especially new players, build a balanced team and the starters have always been meant to be a strong center point for your team. Especially when you consider that five of the six types we're looking at (Fire, Water, Psychic, Dark, Fighting) are extremely common types to be used.

Also, where are the rumors of Froakie being Ice coming from? I've seen that floating around and I don't really get why.
