A new Pokémon Mystery Dungeon has been announced today at the Nintendo Press Release! As per usual, the game will contain randomly generated dungeons each time they're entered and will contain Mythical Pokémon to befriend. I was wondering when the next mystery dungeon game would be announced. It has been a while since Gates to Infinity has been released after all. But if they make it as bad as Gates to Infinity was, I'm not even going to bother getting it
Additional info: The game will be released in Japan this fall, North America this winter, and Europe early next year. I AM SO EXCITED THOUGH I LOVE THE MYSTERY DUNGEON SERIES EXCEPT FRICKIN DARK CRATER IN EXPLORERS. Hopefully this will be more like the older PMD games (read: Explorers of Sky) than Gates to Infinity, though it would be cool to include features from Gates such as having a secondary team to play as.
I just hope the story is better personally. I actually enjoy the stories of the mystery dungeon games because it's a lot more involved than it seems like it would be, especially the 2nd generation of them with Time/Darkness/Sky. Sky was the best because you had the ability to see things that you couldn't in the first 2.
I'm really, really excited for this. I've only ever played a Mystery Dungeon game very briefly way way back. I've been wanting to get a more recent MD game but to get them complete and in good quality is unreasonably expensive imo, so this will be a good opportunity to try it out without having to worry about that. And more 3ds games is great.
Japan had a Nintendo Direct today and we got a new trailer out of it! Items of note: There are twenty starters available to choose from: the starter Pokémon from each region, plus Pikachu and Riolu. Slightly disappointed that the quiz seems not to be returning, but it's a big step up from the five starters from Gates to Infinity. The game will feature all 720 revealed Pokémon. The graphic style from Gates to Infinity is retained. Equipped items will now be visible on your Pokémon. The game will hit Japan on September 17.
You know, as much as I like mystery dungeon, I don't think I can get used to the graphics of Gates to Infinity. There's just something about it that kind of bugs me. But it's interesting seeing all those legendaries having a part in this game. So far we've only ever had Groudon and Rayquaza in one; Mesprit, Uxie, Azel, Dialga, Palkia, Dialga, Darkrai, and Cresselia in the 2nd generation; Kyurem in the last. I hope they have a big role to play. And I know this would never happen, but it'd be cool to at least see someone try to make a mystery dungeon game or something like it where you go between being a human and pokemon and have to travel two different worlds to complete the story
Hm, I've never played any of the Mystery Dungeon games, but I've heard good things. I might have to check this one out when it's released. Does anyone have any suggestions on a good MD game to start the series with (assuming that they're not chronological sequels or something like that)?
I haven't played the MD games in awhile , but as far as I remember the games aren't exactly linked plot wise so I think you can start with any mystery dungeon game. Most of the series is for the DS except for gates to infinity which released for the 3DS. if it helps the order the games were released in was Red/Blue rescue team Explorers of Time/Darkness Explorers of Sky Gates to Infinity
Explorers of Sky is what you should start out with. Red/Blue isn't bad, but the story isn't as good, and the Prologue doesn't really have much going for it either
While all of the Mystery Dungeon games take place in a world where Pokémon have their own advanced society (while humans exist somewhere elsewhere separate from them), none of the stories are interconnected. Think Final Fantasy. Explorers of Sky is the magnum opus of the Mystery Dungeon series, and possibly of all Pokémon spin-offs. If you only play one Mystery Dungeon game, make it that one. It takes the superb story from Explorers of Time/Darkness and then expands on it with extra playable side chapters to provide backstory for some characters and closure for a major story arc. It also adds more starter options, new locations and dungeons, and a new shop to the main town, among other positive changes. Its soundtrack is also phenomenal, and even accessible through an unlockable jukebox in-game. Gates to Infinity, while considered the worst Mystery Dungeon game, does have a free demo on the eShop that you can use to acquaint yourself with the mechanics and overall setting, if nothing else. The game does have some good features, though, like mapping all of your attacks to L+face buttons (rather than only letting you set one attack to L+A and being required to access the rest through menus), switching the menu to the touch screen and the overworld to the top screen, and Companion Mode, which lets you take a team of recruited Pokémon through dungeons outside of the main story. I also personally liked the Magnagate mechanic.
New trailer! Highlights: The quiz is back! Not only can you visit more than one town, but you can visit the continent from Red/Blue Rescue Team!
CoroCoro magazine has unveiled the first official artwork for the game (which will also be available as a 3DS Home theme), which confirms the presence of Mega Evolution! Artwork of the twenty starters also was revealed, as well as a screenshot featuring Hoopa's Unbound forme.
The artwork for the game looks amazing, I like the idea of the artwork being a 3DS home screen. it will be interesting to see how they implement mega evolution in the game ( I think it might work in the same way as the evolution method from previous MD games. Also it would be cool if they used one of the ideas from other Pokémon games for travelling to different regions.
Wonder how many times I'll have to redo the quiz to get the Pokemon I want. Those random generated questions are annoying sometimes, even with a guide to help. I'll probably go for Fennekin for my main this time around
Although those question can be annoying at times I personally hope they don't change to much about the quiz and keep it kind of similar to the original. As for main team hope to try and get my team from sky, Pikachu and Rilou
Not a big fan of that artwork, but I'm still really interested in this game. I only played a bit of Red Rescue Team on an emulator on my phone some years ago, which I had fun with, so I'm sure I'll like this game, especially with every known Pokemon so far in it. And it's got Mega Evolution, which is a huge plus for me.
According to Serebii, with the quiz being back, if you don't get the pokemon you want, you can change it if you want, which I'm guessing means you just retake the quiz then and there instead of having to restart the whole game like the first 2 games. And apparently you can choose if your partner is "Cool" or "Cute", which I'm also guessing means you can decide whether the partner is male or female. If that's the case, I wonder if there's a slight dialogue change between the two as well
