So, what do you guys think of the major voice change that took place in all of the characters and Pokémon in Battle Frontier and up?

Personally, I liked the old voice actors better, and I've never been able to figure out why they were changed.

Was it because the rights were changed from Kids' WB to Cartoon Network or what?

Wait what? We are in season 14 now. Anyway, i've heard a lot of complaints about it, even the Japanese writers were annoyed when they found out. Personally i don't have an opinion on it since i have watched seasons 1-8 all in Greek and we have even nowadays the same voice actors. I don't get why the fuss, at least on the fan side's behalf, i really liked those voices when i watched the 9th season in English. Ash did sound as if he was smoking a bit but at least this would make up for his luck of growth over the years XD

But since then i only watch Pokemon episodes in Japanese. Much better.

I never noticed a voice change. That, and it's been a while since Season 9. I don't really remember the voices from then. But still, I say the voices are nice. If the keep the same person through the entire show, whenever it will end, Ash will start sounding like an adult. they kinda have to change actors sooner or later

I only thought of this because I've been watching my video files every night and weekend mornings and recently reached Battle Frontier.

Anyway, I agree with the puberty statement.

However, even May and Max, who were only introduced in the Hoenn saga, meaning they weren't on the anime since the beginning, got different voices.

The one thing I don't understand, though, is why most of the Pokémon got different voices. They don't sound as enthusiastic, in my opinion.

For example, before Battle Frontier, Corphish would say "Phish!" multiple times when using Bubble Beam.

However, out of the episodes I've watched so far in Battle Frontier, he just says "Corphish!".

well, sometimes people need to change things a little to keep it nice.

And I'm guessing the May and Max thing was the same, sometimes a person's voice will change faster than others, so I'm still sticking with it. Or maybe they changed the voices to actually make them sound older, I don't know.

Sorry for the bump, but this has been bugging me.

I have to wonder if the voices were actually changed because of puberty reasons or if it was because of Cartoon Network taking the dubbing job from 4Kids.

I believe it was the taking of the dubbing job. Yes. I may be wrong, but it is what I have heard somewhere. So I'm just passing that on to you.

To be honest, it hasn't actually been years hence why there has been no growth in Ash.
Funnily enough, even in the latest Unova region seasons. Ash is still ten years old.
Yup, that's right. He hasn't aged since the Indigo league (despite having so many Christmas episodes... which makes you think, how many Christmas's can they have in the space of a year. Maybe the world of Pokémon is just that different? lol)

But yes, actual proof of Ash still being ten is revealed in the first episode of the Unova region season. The narrator is the one who reveals it in the first few minutes.

yeah, I remember that. The moment I heard that my brain went into overdrive. I mean, how do you do all of that and still stay 10? Do they only get a year older after like 3 or 4 years? Kinda rediculous

they did between the last season and this one. It's really rediculous. I mean, in the last one Ash sounded like the right age, and now, he sounds like he just went back like 2 or 3 years. Talk about inconsistency

    Omg, not again! Dx
Actually, I haven't been up-to-date with the Pokemon anime since they stop airing it on Kids WB (I didn't have cable or dish at the time). Im only up-to-date with the movies. The first voice for Ash did the voice for Max in the English version for Dinosaur King when the voice wasn't Ash any more if I heard him right.
What I do remember 4Kids contract expired with Pokemon and was picked up by Viz Media, but due to that effect most of the voices couldn't be their respective characters and couldn't air on Kids WB anymore. I didn't like the Diamond and Pearl series because of the voice changes so thats when the anime left my life except for the movies, they are still enjoyable for me for some reason and I did noticed the soundtrack for the movies are not different anymore (they kept the Japanese soundtrack in the English movies now) and less editing is involved.

I don't watch the show - It personally started going downhill for me when they went to Hoenn, I'm not sure why.
But - Yeah, the voice changes annoy me quite a bit. I'd say it's because of dub changes, y'know?
The video games are my only source to Pokemon~

really? I kinda liked Hoenn. I personally think May was the best female companion they've put in so far. Misty got kinda annoying after a while, and Dawn seemed, I don't know....a little clutsy. And Iris is just acts way to mature than she is, which makes her just a tad bit annoying too. Plus, it was fun watching May mess up trying to help out, like when she told torchic to use Amber instead of Ember. That was amussing

I never saw the English dub apart from movies... Only the Dutch and Japanese ones... But Season 9 had a different licence than the previous series, so I think that's why the dub changed.
