Poetry Contest July 2009

Hey everyone! Sorry I'm so late. I was busy recently and unfortunately lost track of this. That's over now, for a while at least, and we can move on with the next contest.

Seen some interesting poems in June too. Some eras were picked that I wouldn't have guessed to be portrayed. Congratulations to all of you.
This month's winner is Shades with his poem "My Light". It had a lot of substance and his metaphor was simply astonishing. We loved it. Congratulations!

This month's theme is Death. This is of course inspired by the recent tragic passings but don't let that influence you if you want to make a general poem! We shall be neutral. Best of luck to you!

Thank ye kindly. I'm not going to lie, there were a number of pieces that I felt were stronger than mine, but I appreciated the responses none the less!

 

Arrgghh...I was gonna partake in the last one, but I kinda forgot to write a poem. I might just partake in this one, but only if I don't get too much difficulties.

Congrats shades. I kinda felt you would get the win this time.

Question

What is “death�

Death is devoid
Of happiness and cheer
A constant state of
Empty mind
A loss for words
Belittled by fear

Death is careless
Safety elusive
A simple shot
A quick scratch
The thought of Death,
Dangerous and intrusive

Death is merciless
To father,
Mother, or child
Regardless, they fall
Withheld exception
A kindred bother

Death is deceptive
Its blame on others
A vicious circle, this
Causes, fighting and
More death
To father, child and mother

Death is natural
Per life anew
With the death of one
Sparks onto dormancy
Quietly and solemnly
The newborn life this world into

 

Our Bodies Die but Our Love Stays Forever

Everything happened so fast we was smiling and now we lay down on the ground,
We look at each other asking the same question will we hear each others last sound,
Our sight becomes blurry as our bodies become numb,
We look at each other smiling thinking about being dumb,
The last bit of my strength i hold you close to me,
She holds me close back cause the love she can see,
The time stands still as our breaths slowly becomes less,
I look at her and she looks at me as our bodies slowly becomes lifeless,
we look at each feeling cold as our blood covers the ground beneath us,
I can feel myself losing touch with life I look at her eyes as I stroke her hair,
A peaceful embrace we do then our lips touch as our love stays in its lair,
She rest her head on my shoulder as she slowly close her eyes entering the endless loneliness,
I look at her and i rest my head on hers as I start to close my eyes I say one thing "i will be there by your side even after we die" I say to her not thinking about the bitter sadness,
Our love makes our cold bodies become warm as our hearts beats slower,
The rain starts to fall giving the scene a sad shower,
Our last thoughts are about the memories of our life as our conscious continues to drop,
We stay close to each other as our hands stay touched we whisper "i love you " to each other as our lives stop,
Our bodies die but our spirits goes up to the sky with our hands touching as we leave the world behind us.

 

Grief

Another day has passed now,
another stormy cloud,
another way to cry and another way to pout.
No matter what has happened here,
keep your chin up and smile,
for the words you are sending,are depressing us.
Never one to listen,
never one to try,
fixing broken pieces of our past lives.
Even in the future,
the way we must all live,
this day forward, I will never forget you.
The way used to smile,
the way you used to laugh,
brought the sun on cloudy days,
chased the scary things away.
Falling under crying,
trying to fix my eyes,
trying not to drown all the while.
But,even though I miss you,
even though I'm broken,
I'll try to live another day without you.
Going past the darkness,
looking for a light,
trying to find myself;although I've lost sight...
Of who I am,
and who I want to be,
trying my best to be free.
Free of all the stress,
free of all the pain,
your death has brought me,let's just be plain...
I want things simple,
like they used to be,
headed for the sunset,just being me.​

 

Eternal Death
What is Eternal?
It's a circle that never ends
A life of this and that with repeats
It's a 1+1 continuously
A flame that never dies
the outer reaches of space
They are all eternal
Lives cannot
We were all made to live and die
Not caring what we do to our lives
Our lives are a straight line with a dead end
We go on it until we reach the end
Even the powerful fails and turn weak
The bright is consumed in darkness
The high sinks lower
The right chooses the wrong
Death lurks every corner
We may not live forever, but death is eternal
It can be easily achieved
Anyone can get death as long they do it
Every decision is a make or break in our lives
Either way, we will break at the end
And when we break, it cannot be fixed
And we will fall broken never picking ourselves up​

 

Death


The chair creaks.
A bundle of black robes sits amount
A hidden face, an enigma
icy claws reach out from a shallow body.
He is timeless
on his throne of despair
Ready to grip those still alive
And drag them
Until the screams stop.
He is Death.

 

Forever will you live on. x

I never got to say goodbye,
But I suppose none of us do,
When that opportunity does arise,
Our expressions are plastered with a clear, salty residue.

My memories will forever remain,
But some others will disagree.
Some claim that time will run them dry,
But that will never apply to me.

And when the thought of our last encounter,
Brings back those clear, salty tears,
I will promise myself not to think of those bad times,
But more of our golden years.

Perhaps I sound so heartless,
To state that you are in a better place,
But when I splutter and bawl of how things are better for you now,
That will never substitute your embrace.

How warm your loving hugs were,
How gentle your rough hands could be,
How you always said that I will turn out,
to be the best that I can achieve to be.​

 

Who is Death?

Death sits by your bedside
His face an empty shadow
Slowly his hand reaches toward you
Not faster or slower,
steady.

His face shows no empty eyes
Or a mouth with a wicked smile
Which makes him all the more
Mysterious and cunning,
wicked.

Though you try with fading strength
Nothing you do distracts him
His hand moves forward still
Frightful and unavoidable,
dangerous.

His hand grabs around your wrist
And your scream is heard by no one
As he raises a scythe in the other hand
Quickly and painfully,
death.​

I Dont Want To Die

I dont want to die
For I do not know what will happen then
Is There a Heaven in the great skies?
Or just a lonely end for whoever dies?
Though at times i wish i could already die
I refuse to leave what could be a happy life
Therefore I dont want to be where my
ancestors lay even if I have to strife
Ill work hard to survive
Because I do not want to die

Its fate's job to torture me

Its been 1 month since her death
time hasn't healed my heart
Maybe its time i draw my last breath
and let Satan take his part

I had always lived in the shadows until she came
My moments with her were heaven
God came and destroyed that
Now my soul is dark as hell

Maybe i'll pray for that one sinner
Maybe his darkness can bring her back
All it costs is my soul
That thing i never had

God kills us slowly over time
Satan's darkness...maybe

Death's Grief


The sunset, an amazing time where spirits roam free
when our hearts were one
i remember when we would relax by the tree
but then it happened and i was alone

life had no meaning
my emotions hollowed
and i finally felt nothing
my light had been swallowed

my heart was consumed by darkness
my light completely faded
i could take any disse
and i did my heart's bid

then she came back
my heart shined
but life is what she lacked
her love i pined

she was just an illusion
i thought she was there
then my heart turned away from satan

i became one with my darkness and light
i found a new strength to live
and i gained more might
threw away the shiv

my soul reborn
my emotions gone
i finally heard Limbo's horn
I was no longer Satan's pawn

Spirituality I began to covet
my subtle body relaxed
life would have 2 suck it

Then she came with a heart of pure light
she soothed my soul
I finally started down the path of twilight
I began to feel her pull

I love her
My life's new adventure.
