Poetry Contest December 2009

Wow I've been doing this for almost a year now I think. Time does fly.
Last month's theme was a bit off the usual track and we got a lot of responses, so thank you all for that.

That being said, it was frustratingly hard to pick a winner since I've seen much strong poetry in those small gems.
Winner this month was Arcanine. Her poem "Only Heroes Ever Die" was cryptic but at the same time understandable. She really did say a lot in few words. Runners-up this month were clawtooth35 and Plums. Mentioning them because it was very close this month.

This month's theme is animals. I'm pretty sure we had this theme before, maybe under a different host, but it's been a while still. Good luck to you all!

Circle of life
Through the animal kingdom we are all connected.
One big circle to keep us protected.
Every lion, monkey or mouse is our brother and sister.
One big family, one true lifter.
To the sky a big red sun.
We all live together, we are one.
It doesn't matter what you are expected to be.
Hold your head high and say "I am still me"
I will not cry when we part.
We are connected always, here in my heart.
This is how is works unnatural as the blade of a knife.
We will always be together as one in the circle of life.

Its hot breath
Breathes in my blood
As it seeps into the snow
Lustrous, shining fur
Rubs against my ashen skin
As it gores me into food
Piercing eyes
Metallic in brilliance
Stare into my own dull organs
The wolves retreat

Just a little tribute to MGS aswell as being my first poem to enter in this competition and being a tribute to one of my favourite animals.

I exist in this earth for one reason,
I walk the street my Grey fur beared,
The street lights flicker,
The rain patters on the pavement,
Interupting the light of the full moon,
In the alley i smell dead meat,
A pack of jackal hover around it,
They turn to me, the fox,
They back me into the corner,
Roaring and cackling at me,
ROAR, SCRATCH, BLEED,
I walk out of that alley,
The stench of blood,
The tender echo of a fox across the city,
Like a tear from the eye of sorrow,
I die 10 feet away

 

Her
Sitting on the stable floor
Just below the wooden door
There she sits the cat named Her
Just the mention of her name
Puts this cat into a frame
she purs and purs like time will stop
she never lets her felion sence drop
Sitting on the stable floor

There she sits the cat named Her​

 

Home At Last...
You can see my heart, beating faster and faster
Sweat is pouring down my face
My eyes are watering
In a sudden flash
The bullet enters my body
The man in front of me walks away
Blood is everywhere
Everything goes dark
I see a light
I start to run, a smile on my face
I'm home at last...

For Life

When you gaze at me with eyes divine,
Sweet yet subtle, like a dry white wine,
I love each moment of your tender touch,
And hope I never leave your clutch.

You have the fire behind your words,
Shout at your elders with ignorance so absurd,
To your bedroom, you flee,
And on your bed, you confide in me.

Education is such a disaster,
I hate the stress that it applies to my master,
It makes you snappy when push comes to shove,
But not once have I deprived you of love.

Days grow old and so do I,
You still gaze at me with those divine eyes,
Although the medics can’t do much more,
I still love you like I did before.

Leaving is such a hard thing to do,
I hope that your strength will pull you through,
Clear your mind of mourning fog,
And remember me as your once happy dog.

 

The Lion King
The lion kingdom
a family of pride and power
they run and catch as it were a game
Night strikes the dawn and the hyenas come out to play
Savages of the African wildlife,
ripping one another to pieces as their famine arises
the majestic Lion, kind and generous
invites the hyenas to his domain to feast
God's pets eating under the twinkling sky
The moon's rays shining above their heads
morning ecapes from night's clutches and lights the sky
at last the hyenas must say their goodbyes ​

 

I am but a lowly worm
Pin me down
And I shall squirm
You think it's fun
To cut me in half
To watch me struggle down the garden path
I am but a lowly worm

Blind and deaf
I am helpless prey
Dead on the earth I shall lay

 

Chrysalis

Up a tree, so far,
I can see life pass everyone by,
It's a challenge, the path to set me free,
It'll be the final lock, and it's key,

I just wanna make it, so slowly
can't let it go, i'll be up there one day,
So what if it hurts, don't care for the pain
even if the whole world turned against me,
I won't give up on my goal,
I'm no victim, just a simple dreamer
who's finally gonna make it,

I won't lie, I have to say goodbye,
Cause when I'm reborn,
I'll be a beautiful Butterfly
