Eh. While I do agree that some of it is for comical reasons, it has helped people. Plus, they also donate profits to whatever needs it, such as starving children.

It could be worse. It could be Maury.

I'm not even going to go on that tangent.

Ohhhhhh, you meant reruns. Yeah, main Nick doesn't show reruns. If a new season is out, they'll definitely have it, but otherwise yeah.

ALSO B/C WE ARE TALKING ABOUT THINGS RELATED TO MY MAJOR & I CAN'T RESIST TALKING ABOUT IT ON OCCASIONS

There have likely been some people who were helped, and there are doctors that do come on the show to talk, but I am very distrustful of Phil & the show just because it is commercializing mental healthcare for money (even though depending on where you go, it can be a ridiculous sum of money). I have very little authority in the matters of psychology since I'm still a student and have no professional experience in the field (yet), but a television show is in no way a conducive setting to perform proper clinical evaluation. If patients need to be in a group setting, that setting needs to be kept small and within the general comfort zone of the patients. Having an entire audience listen to what is often very personal and intimate information about you is nervewracking and a cause of needless anxiety.

Also to touch on what Lux said, in a counseling environment, it is very important to avoid making the person out to be some huge villain or tell them that their struggles "don't matter" or are "weird". You don't tell someone who's depressed to stop being depressed; you have to work with them, to really sit with them and understand (as well as you can) where they're coming from. Psychology is in no way a perfect science because we just cannot enter into each other's minds and see what everyone else is thinking, but taking time, being patient, being empathetic and kind is as close as we can reasonably get. From the admittedly few episodes I've seen, Phil has gotten aggressive with some people (whether it be the actual patient or someone on stage with them), and that helps no one at all. All it does is contribute to a negative feedback loop already ingrained within that person, and it has the potential to be very destructive on one's state of mind.

To be honest, and this is where my inner cynic shows up, I wouldn't be surprised if there was some kind of shady activity behind the scenes just from the fact that it is a television show and it is a big money maker for him. Have patients ever come back to the show? Do they follow through with the doctors he recommends? Do we really learn the whole story of their treatment process and what it's like? Like I said before, I'm sure there have been some people that have been helped by the show, but within the psychological community, Dr. Phil is kind of a joke, lol.

NOT TO MENTION HE DOESN'T EVEN HAVE AN OFFICIAL FULLY LEGIT DOCTORATE IN PSYCHOLOGY. THAT IS FALSE ADVERTISING??? <--- i am v. against the show as a serious means for mental healthcare

(and similarly the kardashians, jersey shore, and other reality tv because it is suuuuuch a false and negative message about the people involved and i hate that they're able to make money & draw in fans on what is often fake bullshit drama, and that other people are inspired to do this because they see it as an easy way to make money)

I'M SO MAD THAT MY OTHER CAN'T AFFORD WHAT I WANT.

Nigga I was starving and living off my minimum wage and my family bought a boat. When I was a kid, we didn't have ANYTHING the other kids had. No super soakers, nothing. So yeah, paying an extra $20 a month does mean a lot. Sometimes it means the difference between food that week. Living off ramen and cheap meals, it costs me $35 a week to live with some diversity now imagine a family on good food with a mortgage yo, and phone bills, and car insurance (which it's illegal to drive without), etc. Sometimes that extra $20 is too much when you're living for free.

I both loved and hated adverts- they were a good time to take the mic out of them with my Dad and laugh them through or to ask questions or discuss what we were watching or go to the loo or get a drink. When I'm watching alone then I tend to retreat into my own little world for a bit but now, I have become so used to watching stuff on the internet/DVDs that when I do experience adverts I feel so lost.

Admittedly, Nicktoons hasn't been showing reruns, either. It shows reruns of Avatar: The Last Airbender, though. But is it just me or does Nickelodeon not show any reruns of their no longer running or on break shows, such as Big Time Rush and How to Rock?

Yeah. Like, there was a show not too long ago my mom and I watched (she likes it more than I do), where a woman who was abused by her husband and had to have face remade because her husband poured boiling oil on her (and I think something else) came back to share her experiences with another woman that was dealing with the exact same thing with her husband, with the exception that it hadn't gotten to the hospitalization abuse yet.

Most of the time I'm playing video games and browsing the Internet and watching and listening to the television in the background, except when it's a new episode of one of my shows, such as Sam & Cat. Then I lay in bed and pay full attention to it.

Most TV Shows bore me and I know I have them on Netflix so I can watch whenever and I'll just be able to do it at my own speed.

Cable is stupid, and Netflix doesn't have ads, plus it has anime I like.

I really don't see cable as being worth it, especially with Netflix + Hulu + CrunchyRoll + Amazon Instant

It's also more choices than cable at a cheaper price than cable.

There is really only a handful of shows I will actually watch cable for. Otherwise, no go. Teen Wolf is set to start it's 4th Season and I'm more likely to watch that on line on MTV's website. Ghost Adventures is in its new season. And Ghost Adventures: Aftershocks is on going.

I actually saved on my cable bill last month by not watching as much tv. Just tuned into the shows I wanted to watch. Otherwise, I just goofed around on my laptop and re-watched some shows, played some games. Did crosswords.

Re: Televised Psychology/self-help shows = NO. As was said, nothing good comes from telling a person who needs help, in front of a studio audience and millions of viewers, the wrong thing. For example, telling a person with depression to 'get over it' is a bit like telling an epileptic to not have seizures. Or telling a war veteran with PTSD to 'get over it'. It's insulting, damaging, and pretty much worthless.

And like Plum's said, Phil doesn't have a doctorate. Added to that his 'retired' psychology license which is not recognized by any sort of psychology board in Texas or anywhere else. He should not be giving advice to patients or anyone. He's 'helped' Britany Spears among others. And this even is still widely criticized. He's not a joke in the Psychology community, he's a danger.
