So yeah. Lately(And by lately, I'm referring to the past...two weeks) my photoshop has been consistently crashing on me.
The problem in general, and stimulus for this, is when I select a text layer, highlight the text, and then click on either one of the colour pallets(to change the color.) it is here, that photoshop completely locks up, and my work is lost.(Yes, I know I should save, but I'm terrible at memory. >_>)

I've tried reinstalling, changing the settings in photoshop itself, and googling my problem, each coming up with no luck.
I'm pretty desperate now, anybody know if they could help me with this?

Do you have any harmful plugins? I know I've read that people with expired versions of Topaz Vivacity have been experiencing crashes. If not, does it happen when you're using a specific font?

Those are the only things I can really think of, sorry. :\

Something's wrong with your computer, check it for viruses.

It might be something to do with your computer's OS or RAM, or something along those lines.

If not, it could be what Misty said, you could have installed a harmful plugin. I did that with CS2 and it failed constantly because of it. If that is the case, find an earlier version of photoshop.

Are you running CS2, CS3 or CS4? If it's CS4, well I'm sort of not surprised. lawl

Not that I'm aware of. I removed everything related to photoshop when I uninstalled and reinstalled.
Fonts in general. Though lately I have been using a font manager, though I don't see why that should make Photoshop crash.
CS2. I'm not really interested in getting any of the newer versions, the additions are barely noticeable IMO.

Have you downloaded any fonts to use, or are you using fonts that came preinstalled on your computer? There's a chance that if you downloaded and installed a font pack from somewhere on the web (DeviantART, Google searching, etc.), there might have been a harmful file attached to it somehow. I'd run a scan, get rid of those fonts if you have them, and then in the future try scanning the file before downloading it.

You may not have enough RAM.

I've noticed that when I'm in Photoshop, when I go to make a text layer, it usually freezes up for a while, but if I wait for a minute, it goes back to normal.

I've determined that it's because my computer doesn't have enough RAM to properly run Photoshop. Photoshop is the most memory intensive program I have ever run.

Could you please tell us your Operating System and how much RAM you have?

(If you need help finding how much RAM you have, you can ask me.)

My operating system is Windows XP Professional with Service Pack 3, and I have about 2GB of ram.
Strange, I would have thought that it would have been more than enough memory for PS to carry out any job.
Incidentally, I just had a thought. Could my CPU have something to do with this?

That's twice as much RAM as I have XD

And yes, your CPU was the other thing I was going to ask about.
