Has anyone here played any games in the series? Here are games I've played: Phantasy Star II Phantasy Star III Phantasy Star IV Phantasy Star Universe I still haven't played the first one, but I want to. I play the Genesis ones on an emulator, of course.
I've played Phantasy Star 0. I don't know if it has any relation at all to those 4, but I still found it pretty good. It was short yeah, but the very few cutscenes were awesome. And you could choose 3 different things to play as, so each one is a slightly different way to approach the story. And then there was the mother of all dungeons. That thing makes the Ghost Ship Extremem on Rogue Galaxy look like a 3 story dungeon. And if the Ghost Ship Extreme were 3 stories, this dungeon would be 100. It was rediculous. They made it that you couldn't save in it, and the only way to get through was doing it in one, so you would have to keep the DS on, or in Sleep when you're not playing, without having to redo it. I never got through. It was horrible.
Phantasy Star 0 was also the only one in which I played. Seeing as it was to be the first "MMORPH" for the DS I was quite upset at it. You could only use preset phrases when playing with someone you didn't know and after you were done doing the mission with them you had to restart the game. WTF. It's not like the series is so popular that every friend I have had the game. In fact only 1 did. Also the enemies in the different areas were just remakes of the same enemies in the other areas but with different skins. Plus when you do the side missions the bosses for the areas are the same bosses you fought before. Also your "Party Members" in the main game also did the lowest damage possible. It was impossible for them to kill anything and you had to do all the work. I sold this game back.
SEGA is infamous for this. Every Phantasy Star does it. It's just to save on a bit of memory. Well, I've played every Phantasy Star game that was every released in English, starting with Phantasy Star Universe, which got me into the series. After that I tried the original series, the PSP games, Phantasy Star Online: Blue Burst, and Phantasy Star Zero, all of which I've enjoyed for their own reasons. A lot of the newer installments of the game seem to have nothing to do with the original four games, but if you look very closely at the stories, you can find major links to them, through references to Dark Falz/Force, old names resurfacing, and even some direct links, which I won't explain to avoid spoilers for now. That's one of the things that I originally disliked; that SEGA continued to link everything to their most popular game in the series (PSOnline), but upon thinking about it I now think it's actually pretty neat, since it means that all of the universes are linked in some way, and all seemingly take place in one continuity.
I'm also a big Phantasy Star fan. In fact for Universe, I just cancelled my membership on the Xbox servers, but now am on the Japanese servers which is so cool. Sure I can't read anything yet. But we get awesome new items and everything! It's so awesome! XD I'm also a big fan of the Portable games of the series. Looking forward to the release of Phantasy Star Online 2 as well.
yeah, not only did they take little damage, they also died really quickly. It was really annoying. Doing the tower was near impossible if I hadn't had my AR. And then I still couldn't do it, because it was taking forever
