Maybe some viewers complained about the word being used? And personally, I rate damn as pretty low on the cursing scale (e.g. my uncle is fine with me using that word in front of his kids, but ass would probably cross a line).

I do agree that it's odd that b*tch isn't being censored, but I don't think it's a case about stupidity. More like sensitivity and a dissonance in values, but not intelligence necessarily.

Bleeps actually do take away from the medium, to me. It just ruins the flow. Regardless of whether it's audio or text, a [Bleep] or ****, the flow of the speech just gets thrown off. What's even worse, though, is when it's silenced.

Yeah, same here. I only like bleeps when they're used for comedic effect actually, like in Conker's Bad Fur Day. Otherwise, it takes away from the artistic interpretation.

Have you ever seen Not Another Teen Movie? There's a girl with Tourettes and people actually quote her and you can't even figure out what they're trying to say. Though there is one scene with her that I think is better bleeped and that's the cheerleading scene.
    "Give me an L!"
    "L!"
    "Give me an I!"

    "I!"
    "Give me a [BLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP]!"
    "....[BLEEEEEEEEEEEP]!"

I completely agree, and it was actually brought up when we were doing this song project in my Freshman English class when I was a freshman in high school.

    • In music videos or songs, if swear words are muted or bleeped, it's more noticeable than if they weren't muted or bleeped.
    • In song lyrics, if swear words are replaced with **** or random letters, numbers, or symbols, it's more noticeable than the swear words being in there.
Also, in the season finale of Ice Road Truckers, ass wasn't bleeped, so I guess it was a technical issue or something. Additionally, "whore" was said once, and it went unbleeped.

It probably has to do with what time you are watching a show. Sometimes there are more censors on something earlier in the day than something shown later in the day.

    Example:

I enjoy watching South Park, which is a really adult show, filled with swears and what not. I usually watch it during late nights, the usual time for their show for years now. However, I was watching the show on weekend mornings. One time, in particular, it was the Wal-mart episode, and the Wal-mart owner ended up being hung and pooping himself. I had seen the episode a number of times, so I knew exactly what happened. However, this particular time, the screen went black, except for some white text that reads something like "owner jumps from the window, hanging himself, and finally pooping himself".

And even when they used to show it in the afternoons, there were more censors than when you saw it at late night, it's probably like that because of the hours when young ones are usually up, but I'm not too sure.

This too yeah, the censoring depends on what time of day the show is airing.

Personally though I don't find swearing really adds too much to the dialogue, unless it's being used for comedic effect. But that's just me.
