just kidding, no one asks me that. but i do. and this is why.

 

I wouldn't have called Obsidian indie. This was their sixth game at that point.

Anyway, shame, but I love Chris and his team for their ability to always bounce back and do better or new things. Great developer and not celebrated enough.

Zenimax and Bethesda has always been a bit dodgy business wise, but I can't deny their games. Fallout 3 has got to be a highlight of this gen.

This is why Metacritic is a horrible place.

 

I wouldn't call it horrible, like all reviews you need a pinch of salt and an open mind.

Besides, it's not Metacritic's fault Bethesda made a ****** business deal at Obsidian's expense.

Replace Metacritic with "numbered review scores." Which of course would negate Metacritic's existence.

 

I think New Vegas was better then 3.

 

I can see what they were going for here. To ensure the quality of the product and not sully their brand, they added that in the contract to make sure they would do a good job. The bonus would have probably been pretty damn big. Shame that they didn't get it, but it's not like they didn't know about it beforehand.

Blame the reviewers, not Bethesda.

Would've been no New Vegas without Fallout 3. 3 was a big move forward for the FPS genre of last gen. Sure Elder Scrolls did it first and it was based on that but it trumped it in many ways.

I loved both, but 3 was just more stream lined. New Vegas built on that ambition and trumped it in a number of ways but it felt like too many ideas were implemented without being as succint.

Oh and the NV DLC was much better. Ulysses had a great character set up.

 

Maybe they shouldn't have made such a buggy piece of shit game.

 

Awkward that I live near Bethesda and know some peeps that work there. :x I even remember wanting to intern there for a school project, but they bluntly said no bueno. Definitely big company attitude over there.

But yeah, I believe royalties should be granted based on quantity over quality. I suppose the contract was supposed to be an incentive for the company to, well, make a good game, but alas.

Metacritic is terrible. This is fact.

However, Bethesda isn't the only one doing this to ensure brand quality when outsourcing. In fact, since they rarely outsource- this is the least offender.

This is a problem with the current publisher model. Don't mix the issues.

Agreed, let's not lose focus here guys. Reviews have their kinks to be worked out but above all else the companies should know better.

 

Like /v/ would ever call New Vegas a shitty game.

 

I think his point was towards the vernacular, and not in the target of the sentence.
