I thought the same thing for ages!! I only actually found out a few years ago (probably on here) that they actually mean jam.

 

I never did like peanut butter for some reason.

We just read the labels. "Grape Jelly" <--- I suppose you would call it "Grape Jam?"

We get that inside the United States as well. For instance, in some places it is acceptable to call a soda just a pop. In other places, it's a "soda pop," or "soda drink." Even in English, their are variations of the dialect and usage. It's all about where you grow up, and what you learn.
