This was inspired by the song Papercut by Linkin Park. It takes place after KHII and deals with Riku's thoughts and feelings about himself and darkness. And how to deal and live with it. Out of character... lol. ~~~ Why does it feel like night today? Something in here's not right today. Why am I so uptight today? Paranoia's all I got left I don't know what stressed me first Or how the pressure was fed But I know just what it feels like To have a voice in the back of my head Like a face that I hold inside A face that awakes when I close my eyes A face watches every time I lie A face that laughs every time I fall (And watches everything) ----- A silver-haired boy stared out into the ocean. His thoughts bounced around in his mind. Returning home was nice, but he still felt uneasy around his friends. His friends… how could they ever forgive him? They say they will and have, but something inside him doesn’t believe… doesn’t want to believe. He had sided with the darkness, turned into true darkness itself. He betrayed his friends, the only ones he loved. “You’re a traitor,” it said. He believed it. He felt unworthy and shunned the light away. ----- So I know that when it's time to sink or swim That the face inside is hearing me Right beneath my skin It's like I'm paranoid lookin' over my back It's like a whirlwind inside of my head It's like I can't stop what I'm hearing within It's like the face inside is right beneath my skin ----- The warmth of the sun bathed his skin. As he watched it made its descent to meet the water. A slight breeze swept across the islet, making his silver hair billow in the wind like a sail. It felt calming; the coolness of the breeze. “Just like your heart,” it said. He knew it was the truth as thoughts rushed into his mind. So many came he couldn’t handle it as his head throbbed. His heart was cold; made bitter by the darkness. ----- I know I've got a face in me Points out all my mistakes to me You've got a face on the inside too and Your paranoia's probably worse I don't know what set me off first But I know what I can't stand Everybody acts like the fact of the matter is I can't add up to what you can but ----- His deep thoughts were interrupted by his growling stomach. He reached up a muscular arm and grabbed a star-shaped fruit. The paopu fruit, said to hold the power to intertwine peoples’ destinies if shared with one another. Destinies? His destiny was picked long ago. “Once a part of the darkness, always a part of the darkness,” it said. No matter what he did or how hard he tried part of his heart was tied to the darkness. He envied the light. Even though he freed himself and chose his own path, he was forever tied to the one thing he hated. The darkness, it was mysterious; he hated it but enjoyed the power it brought forth. ----- Everybody has a face that they hold inside A face that awakes when I close my eyes A face watches every time they lie A face that laughs every time they fall (And watches everything) So you know that when it's time to sink or swim That the face inside is watching you too Right inside your skin ----- He reached into his pocket and pulled out his knife; a small, handy but deadly knife. The blade was silver and razor sharp; it only took a slight brush of the tip to cause damage, the handle was a deep violet color; almost black, and it had the name “Riku” written on it in golden cursive letters. He placed the paopu fruit in his left hand and knife in his right. He brought the blade up and started to slice the paopu fruit in a downward motion. As brought the blade down through the fruit for the last time his hand slipped. ------ It's like I'm paranoid lookin' over my back It's like a whirlwind inside of my head It's like I can't stop what I'm hearing within It's like the face inside is right beneath the skin It's like I'm paranoid lookin' over my back It's like a whirlwind inside of my head It's like I can't stop what I'm hearing within It's like the face inside is right beneath my skin The face inside is right beneath your skin The face inside is right beneath your skin The face inside is right beneath your skin ----- “Ouch!” He said as the blood began to rise. He watched as the rose-red blood ran down his arm. How the blood over powered the skin, it reminded him of the darkness once again. “You want the darkness again?” it asked. A part of him did want it. “You’ve had a taste… but a taste is not enough. You thrive on it.” it said. He became angry; he hated it, he wanted it, he wanted to be free from it, he did thrive off it. He watched as more blood came from the cut. As it poured out so did the emotions; the pain turned to pleasure. ----- The sun goes down I feel the light betray me The sun goes down I feel the light betray me The sun I feel the light betray me The sun I feel the light betray me It's like I'm paranoid lookin' over my back It's like a whirlwind inside of my head It's like I can't stop what I'm hearing within It's like the face inside is right beneath my skin It's like I'm paranoid lookin' over my back It's like a whirlwind inside of my head It's like I can't stop what I'm hearing within It's like I can't stop what I'm hearing within It's like I can't stop what I'm hearing within It's like the face inside is right beneath my skin ----- “You know you can’t live without it,” it said. He knew he could, but it would be a long hard road. Was he willing to risk it all? What if he ended up betraying his light again? No, he couldn’t do that. It would hurt them too much; his friends, his true light. Slit, slit, slit. “I want to be free,” He said feeling the pain go away. He was floating, he felt free. “You’re going right back to where you belong,” it said. “What?” He asked confused. The pain just came back; it seemed to boil beneath his skin. Shhwpt! He waited. Watching it flow, as if it were hundreds of rose petals dancing around. Nothing… no just more pain. “Couldn’t face the light?” it asked. He was lost where was the feeling of freedom? “Don’t fret. You belong here…” it said coldly. “I thought this was the way out,” He said quietly. As the red, orange sun hit its mark with the crystal blue ocean; turning the sky pink. “We all have are burdens to bear,” it said. He looked out into the water, taking in its beauty. “I’m sorry…” he said as he slowly closed his eyes and all became darkness.
EMO....not cool, interesting take but still emo, not how I envision Riku. But I liked it, it was pretty interesting to read.
---- Lol... I don't think Riku is emo either, thats just how my story goes. BTW... I'm def not emo either. ~_~ Just so ya know.
Oh my! Emo Riku? Never expected that. I'll be looking to see how it goes. Or is this the only chapter? I never imagined any of them being emo. I guess Riku is the most likely... Imagine Emo Kairi! Ha!
~~~ You'd be surprised what my mind can fathum... idk if I even spelled that right. And this was just a one-shot. Funny thing you say that... I've had this one idea in my head. The story would be about Kairi... but her personality's totally different. Yeah... sorta. >_<;;
Eh, emo is not for me. But I like your style. Veddy nice. But there's something about it that seems so very Marry Sue, ya know? *shrug* It could just be me. But other then that, I thought it was very well written. =D
--- Yeah I know... the more I think about its very "emo-ish". >_> <_< Uhhh... yeah. Marry Sue... I don't know? Lost??? Thank you!
Marry Sue; a friend of mine from Michigan said that they said this to express "cliche". *shrug* So I used it... -_-' Sorry but I think it's just me. It's late here and I need sleep. I think your one-shot is fine, though. =D You're welcome.
Oh... okay. *nods head* I've actually been typing out my ideas instead of forgetting about them. ~_~ That reminds me... ~~~ It is late. I think I'm off. Thank you again for your comments!
Well, I love how you tied it into an LP song. LP rocks. I don't like how Riku was portrayed as a Slitter, that was a bit...I can't find the word, but it wasn't what I thought. I liked the rest of it, though. A few grammar mistakes. A few spelling mistakes. I'd say 4/5
This was good.. even for a "one-shot" story. It got me interested in what else you can do. I've been waiting for your other story, "Pure of Heart" (right?), to have a new chapter. *hint hint* But anywho.. this story was good. But I just cant see Riku being so down that he would cut him self for the pleasure..you know? It just seems.. unlikely since he doesnt appear to have that type of attitude in the game. (no offense to your story though.) Even though he would probly be the most likely to do so out of the trio, dealing with the darkness and all. As said before, good job. Much love- Kairi2011<3 P.S.- Be sure to check out my story, "Kingdom Hearts: Untitled", I couldnt find a title for it.. but its just the beginning.. so stay tuned. I may also start a new project so check in for that as well. Kthnx=]
Yeah... hehe... that chapter will... be out soon. :/ Ywah I know it's a little "off" but I did state "out of character" in the AN. Thanks for the comments though. Mkay, I'll go check it out.
Holy $hi†!!! I loved every second of that. *Bows low* Your writing skills are amazing. The darker take on Riku's hard life, troubling memories and thoughts, and his trip through the darkness is refreshing. Normally, I see a bunch of cracks on him being Sora's lover, or its his game related behavior within a story. Or, Riku is the exact opposite of this, and is all happy and has closer to a Sora personality. The tie in with Linkin' Park gives you BoNuS PoInTs from me, btw. I've only given those out to Foxxie, so consider yourself elite, xD. Oh, and btw, I'm not an emo either, although I love crap like this. *Slits left wrist* Lok at the botum of my post, in teh areA tha sig go. clik link. ray stori. *Slits right wrist*
