Post/discuss paintings you like. An appreciation thread of sorts.

Louis Wain's kitty pics are most interesting. His schizophrenia worsened in the latter years of his life, which is believed to have influenced his later works. See below, the progression. Even further below be Vladimir Kush, who I recently discovered. Surrealism and whatnot. I like it.

Actually, those Louis Wain paintings aren't in chronological order. The psychologist who arranged them that way only did so to create evidence to back his theories. Louis Wain did have Schizophrenia, but the paintings do not reflect the worsening of his condition.

Where did you learn this? Sources would be appreciated. If you are indeed correct, pardon for the misinforming. I had heard differently.

The Salvador Dali museum in Figueres is the only museum that didn' t bore me for a second. First, because Dali had quite a playful approach to painting, second because the museum kept true to that spirit and tried to make visitors interact with the oeuvres in many ways, sometimes in completely unexpected ways, which is immensely more intriguing than watching pictures passively, keeping your hands stucked in your pockets. I mean, look at the freaking museum, just from the look of it you can tell it' s definitely peculiar :

On a side-note I was raised in Perpignan, its train station ceiling was designed by Dali. Apparently he thought that particular train station was, I quote, "the center of the universe", which shows how far gone the man was. ^^

As an art student, I actually can't stand surrealism because of all the little symbols it hides. Call me immature, but yeah, bleh.
I won't bore you with my facts, just that if you notice anything 'dirty' about a surrealist painting, its supposed to be >.< I hate my art teacher.

ANYWAY There was this one painting called 'An Allegory of Venus and Cupid' and the way my art teacher explained it to me, it pretty much represents everything I believe in about love. The fact that people, men especially, change. The fact that it starts well, but can turn pretty sour. The fact that many people put on 'masks' in relationships to impress the other person. The artist was trying to represent the complexities of love, and its effects on others. Its one of my favourite paintings just because of that meaning. I'd post a link but it would probably be flagged for nudity. Look it up if you want though :P
