Casual Gamer Social Gamer Specialist Gamer Expert Gamer x Describe your gaming habits using the article above. Do you fit snugly into one of these categories? Are you perhaps a combination of two or more (casual expert, social specialist, etc.)? Do you fit none of them? Is there another category of gaming you feel should be added to the list? Please be sure to read the descriptions, as even the ones you recognize may not mean what you think! As for me, I think I'm split squarely between social and expert gaming. I'm drawn to games with a thriving community, but at the same time I'll play almost anything if I can get my hands on it. Not to mention, a big part of interacting with that community for me is watching streams and let's plays, reading articles, tracking sales statistics, and so forth. Though I do show a specialist's flair for certain games, on occasion; such as my radical devotion to all things Dark Souls.
I am going to say a little bit of casual, specialist and expert, here's why: When I'm having a bad day, I usually pop in a game to help make me feel better. Assassin's Creed, maybe Halo. I use the game to unwind and relax to get the stress out of my system. I do usually look into a game though before I buy it, so I'm not fully casual. Specialist I like the RPG genre. I usually go for old games of the RPG genre and aim for that, I do follow several series religiously and enjoy playing them when I can, but at the same time, I like checking out different types of games. Which brings me to expert: I look into a game. Sometimes I don't look into it after the game comes out, but I still do look into it. I go watch Lets Plays if it catches my eye, I go to gaming sites and make rp's about it. I usually expand when I think I can, I lean heavily in RPG, but lately I've gotten into FPS and puzzle with Halo and Portal which I haven't done until this generation. The thing is, though, I don't play everything, I have a very small library due to the amount of money I have and what I find that catches my interest. I hope that explains it. :/
I think I'm a Specialist, with a dice of Social and Expert. I like my specific games, I don't have too many that I play, but when I see or hear something that interests me, I go all out and make sure I know what it is. I play a few social games, and they are fun, but I also play a few other games designed for me to uncover every stone.
I want to say spec type of gamer for Street Racing games just not anymore. I'm more of a well informed casual gamer, but mostly social, just not really sure. I do like to expand from the peepz I usually play with so its really ehh for me haven't decided on it just yet.
I'd have to say I'm more toward expert gaming, but also a little bit of specialist gaming in that mix. I love to play games, even if it's just of one franchise, but I also don't mind playing games from other genres; it's just not something I do most of the time. I also watch a lot of LPs and read a lot of info about games before/after they're released, and it's most certainly true I do that a lot especially when I don't get the game. I don't look to beat a game 100%, but I do look for a game that's about 90% good in my book, since I've only ever found Legend of Dragoon, maybe Time Hollow and Golden Sun: Dark Dawn as well, are the only games I could really rate 100% in my book, but I do play a lot of games that I'd find fun that most others would find really dumb or boring.
A blend between casual and specialist. I don't like much but what I do like I play religiously. At times I wish I knew more about gaming, and at times I don't care. If I had the money I may go deeper into gaming, but since I've got other things going on right now that's not possible.
I guess i am a mix of all (minus social) I would love to be a social gamer, unfurtunetly I don't have that many friends playing.. from time to time I would gather some people to play Age of Mythology.. but that gang is over now :(! I like some games, and read about it, before playing and I try to get it 100% (all trophy)... however I can stay months whithout playing anything (my Ps3 is currently gathering dust) ... And yet when I have the time (I can't play only for 1hour or 2) I 'll play the game all the time 5 hours or more whithout a sweat! The last game I was playing was Ac III, In least than four days I made almost everything there is.
I lean towards the specialist gamer archetype (RPGs). I occasionally broaden my horizons, but I never stray too far from RPG mechanics or fantasy settings. Judging from the time I actually spend gaming, one might classify me as a "casual gamer" instead, although I don't think I fit the description at all. I surf around the web looking for game-related topics often, which I don't suspect a casual gamer would do.
I'm definitely an Expert gamer, first and foremost, followed by Specialist since I really enjoy Fighting and Survival Horror (just to name a few, I enjoy a lot of genres), and then Social. Casual last, but it does fit at times. When I play a game that isn't driven by social or multiplayer features, I really try to delve into that experience as much as possible: reading up on lore, exploring every nook and cranny, defeating every secret boss, connecting to characters and plot, etc.
I feel like I'm primarily a specialist, with just a slice of expert and a dash of social. I do enjoy trying new titles, though I enjoy the tried and true formula all the same. When I go for 100% completion, I usually don't get it, but while I'm trying I will do what I can to get there. I also enjoy socializing with games, as it allows you to get together with people you've known for a while or with people you've only just met.
Tied between specialist and social really. I am open to pretty much most games... unless they are of a certain company ...and I tend to really only play when I have people I know on. Tis how the Myst roles.
I think I'm a Casual Social Specialist. Depends on what game I'm playing. I know which games I like, for example Persona, KH, Twewy, and other games like that, but there are times when I feel like playing just about anything, and end up being something like a casual gamer, I would end up playing, what people say are good, but I won't get too much into it, nor would I really care, it's just something to past the time, when I'm too bored. I'm also a bit on the Social side, when playing games like Dragon Nest, I play it with my friends, just to have fun with them, and try to beat them
I mainly fit into the expert category with a bit of specialist thrown in. I love video game news for sure and reading about it. Discussing video games, not as much but I do enjoy that as well. Let's plays, walkthroughs and other playthroughs are pretty enjoyable for me. I enjoy most genres of gaming but I do know specific genres that I tend to like more so than I do others.
I see myself as a mixture of Expert and Specialist. When I'm not gaming, most of my free time goes to reading about upcoming games or different happenings within the industry. E3 is like freakin' Christmas in June to me. I'm the type who could go on for hours talking about video games, what's new with them, specific games that interest me, etc. I'm also a specialist in that I know that my absolute favorite genre of video game is Fighting, no question. I used to play MvC3 like crazy, and still do to an extent. I've also played MvC2 (holy hell I sucked at that), Soul Calibur V, Street Fighter IV and it's expansions, Street Fighter x Tekken, and probably a whole lot more that I'm forgetting. Recently I've become very, very interested in Skullgirls and plan to give that a shot soon (bet you'll never guess who I plan to use lol). While I do tend to stick mainly to fighters, I like to play games of other genres from time to time. Platformers more than anything else.
