We've got little projects planned, such as the Spyro and Crash series, but what should our next big project be after we're done with Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King? Note that our current let's play is only our second one. We've previously done Arc the Lad: Twilight the Spirits (July 14, 2010 - February 5, 2011). @hatok, you like my projects; what do you think?
Be careful about LPing big RPGs like Dragon Quest But hey, it's all a matter of taste, do what you enjoy
Exactly. Lots of issues can arise with long games. Even fairly short RPGs like Final Fantasy 13 can lead to problems
Last part uploaded was part 57, but if you watch part 24 (Progress! Finally!), you'll see how happy we were: Part of the problem, though, was that we didn't really set goals for ourselves before reaching Dhoulmagus, so we just recorded a little bit each time my friend came over, because, honestly, before obtaining the ship the game can drag on a bit and become boring. And a majority of that little bit of recording was just random encounters.
Isn't it a game like Arc the Lad: Twilight of the Spirits that's not well known either because it's just not or because other games overshadowed it?
It has a cult following, but overall it's not the most famous game in the world. It was the game that put Level-5 on the map, and still one of their more popular series. Got it.
Long RPGs are difficult for let's plays I feel, because you've not only got to record like 40+ hours of gameplay with commentary, you've got to keep the audience interested that whole time haha. But as long as you're knowledgeable about the game and have things to talk about, it can work fine. I do think another project of that magnitude would be best served by (if possible) a schedule for when you guys record though, to be honest, to preserve consistency. I would recommend something 30 hours or less that you're very familiar with. I know you said "big project," but what do you mean by that exactly? For example, I think a twenty hour game would make for a decently long let's play and is probably plenty of work to coordinate with another person, but are you specifically looking for more than a certain amount of time (or a certain kind of game, for that matter)?
Time, really. Spyro and Crash would be small projects because, at least the PlayStation ones (except maybe Crash Bash), can be completed in a few hours, so my friend and I could finish those in two or three hangouts. Anyway, our last let's play, Arc the Lad: Twilight of the Spirits, lasted from July 14, 2010 through February 5, 2011 and our current let's play, Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King, started on April 2, 2011. The average play times, from doing some searching, appear to be 40 and 110 hours, respectively, if you go for everything, including the tournaments in the former game above and the post-game story in the latter game above. I'll personally play through these games again myself starting today to see what I get. I'll just need to make sure I don't leave them idling and save and turn them off when I'll be busy browsing the Internet or something. Additionally, my time will include level-grinding, which will really just be on Dragon Quest VIII.
