See we barely have any **** of the sort in mainland Europe. This is one of the reasons why I'll always want to stay here.

Oh yes, no huge arrays of deadly animals, very minor earthquakes, floods but only in certain areas, no tornados- just cold, unadultered FUCKED up weather that doesn't know what it's doing.

    We'd probably just get ash.

Of course with a super volcano like the one under Yellowstone, if the initial blast won't kill you, the aftermath most likely will. We're talking about ash covering miles, food shortages, global cooling.

Disaster all over. So I'm not sure if anywhere would be safe.

I have no idea who Pompei is, but just stay inside until the ash settles down. The ash itself isn't dangerous, it's the force at which it travels.

The Yellowstone Caldera is the volcanic caldera and supervolcano located in Yellowstone National Park in the United States, sometimes referred to as the Yellowstone Supervolcano.

Although there are only a handful of Quaternary supervolcanoes, supervolcanic eruptions typically cover huge areas with lava and volcanic ash and cause a long-lasting change to weather (such as the triggering of a small ice age) sufficient to threaten species with extinction.

The city of Pompeii was an ancient Roman town-city near modern Naples in the Italian region of Campania, in the territory of the comune of Pompei. Pompeii, along with Herculaneum and many villas in the surrounding area, was mostly destroyed and buried under 4 to 6 m (13 to 20 ft) of ash and pumice in the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD.

I explained WHAT Pompeii is/was and also explained why you can't just "stay inside" when Yellowstone erupts.

Well, that was back then; this is now. Technology and everything has advanced so much since the Pompeii incident that I'm sure they have emergency defense plans in the worst case scenario. I mean, they know that area is a volcano, so if they don't have any defense plans just in case it erupts, then they're idiots.

To be fair, we have doors and windows now unlike Pompeii most likely didn't, but yeah, I'd rather not take a giant mother-of-all-ash-walls-that-block-out-the-sun when that thing explodes. In fact, when it does, whether or not it's some time soon, North America, and probably a lot of the world, is going to have issues, since we most likely wouldn't be able to grow a ton of food for quite a long while, and most cities and such will be ruined in some way.

When you figure out a way to stop a force of nature as terrible and destructive as a supervolcano, let me know. If not, you really don't have much room to talk about an emergency defense plan. There really isn't much of a plan for a giant explosion destroying thousands of miles of land and most likely changing the ecosystem on this side of the planet.

In regards to supervolcanoes of the sort, the plan would less be a defense plan rather than an evacuation plan. However, the imminent eruption of any supervolcano is bound to cause some sort of global effect. 1883's Krakatoa eruption would be much smaller in comparison and at the time had many global effects even despite the year. There is only so much we, as humans, can do in regards to natural events like these, so we must take the best options.

There are positive seeds of hope regarding the worldwide food supply and society, though. Mostly with things like the Svalbard seed vault and other such factors.

Yeah, and Krakatoa was one scary eruption. I don't even want to know what the damage difference would be between Krakatoa vs. Supervolcano. I guess the best comparison I can think of is the damage of a frag grenade to an atom bomb.

And all this time I thought when Squidward yelled "krakatoa" in that one SpongeBob episode, it was just a battle cry.

Spongebob is the sort of show where every little thing references some existing factor but it flies over the heads of children who do not know much about marine biology or geology or other things.
