I'm lookin' for alternatives to Gmail, because I'm sick of hearing about their privacy scandals, them gathering info to feed me ads I block anyway and trying to make a Google+ profile on my behalf every time I so much as scratch my ass. Dedicated to privacy, preferably based outside of the US, doesn't need to have all the fancy features but the ability to create aliases is a plus. Any ideas? Currently looking at Hushmail, but I'm open to suggestions.

    Yahoo, maybe?
I've only ever used that and don't have any complaints.

And yeah, Google hard-selling you all their ****. Imagine that.

Buying your own mail server is probably the best way to go.
They're dirt cheap and easy to use.
If you're willing to pay, that is.
If not, maybe just use 000webhost's free domain and mail server. Not the best but I did it for like 5 months and it was ok I guess.

Buy a domain and just use it for email. It's really the only thing that will cure your gmail woes, since you'll find similar troubles in any of the big email providers.

    Don't use godaddy though.

We definitely did when DS owned it, and considering that GoDaddy is the "cheap as ****" option on this planet I wouldn't be shocked if spdude used it too. We don't anymore.
