I watched an english dubbed Naruto and he didn't say Believe it!!!!

Are they finally doing something right?

They should've just gotten rid of it. Something like 'datte ba yo' can't really be harnessed accurately in the english language.

I've never watched a dubbed Naruto episode in my life, however. I've made every effort to avoid it.

 

Dattebayo was never actually noticable in the series, so it was ok and I could easily life with it. and like ロクサス said it has no real translation into english, so they made it Believe it, and for some reason they made the phrase stick out alot, which makes it annoying.

I think they also used it to dub over swear words used in the series.

 

Oh no that catch frace is annoying -.- Maybe they should had gotten rid of it...

 

i guess cause i haven't seen a lot of it (cause they edit it on tv & i dont watch those ones) that it hasn't caught on to me yet. i watched a few jap ones & they were awesome.

 

I have a friend who says it just to annoy the heck out of us.

 

whats the obsession with naruto its like a cheap dbz and yu yu hakusho rip off.

 

Not really, Naruto is based on Japanese Mythology, it's much different other then the fact all three are long running series's.

And Shippuuden is of very high quality in animation, music and Voice acting.

Though the series is a bit overratted.

Great. Another thread of people saying how they find "Believe it!" and the English dub of Naruto annoying. I dont see what's the big deal. I mean, what's wrong with a little catchphrase now and then?

And what's wrong with the english dub? I watch the english dub AND japenese episodes with english subtitles and I dont see what's wrong with the english dub. Alright, the voice acting may not be that good, but still I like hearing Naruto and the crew in english.

 

For me, it's because the English dub gets the script wrong half the time. "Believe it" is a pretty lame translation of 'datte ba yo'--and since it has virtually no english equivalent, they were better off leaving it out.

Not only is the voice-acting bad, but their translations for most of the lines are pretty off the mark. It's annoying to me in that sense. They spend enough time changing the lip-syncs, so they could at least devote more time to translating the scripts more accurately.

Oh wait, that's right. They want it to appeal to younger audiences, which means "lame-alterations-to-plot-and-script-so-that-little-6-year-olds-can-watch-it". That's annoying.

I agree with ロクサス. It wasn't as badly editted as One Piece, but it could of been better, the voice acting is dull, the voice for the most part suit the characters, but I don't feel the emotion, which is bad when it comes to a high energy series like Naruto.

 

LOL I think even Digimon made a better dub than Naruto.

I take the time to watch the Dub on CN during weekdays because it's on at 2:30, and that's when I get home from school.

I watched a few episodes, and as soon as I noticed Naruto hadn't said "Believe it!" yet, he said it. -_- Actually, it wouldn't be half as annoying for me if the voice acting was waaaaaaaaaaaaay better. Seriously. NO ON TALKS LIKE THAT! At least, not all the time. :D

 

There is something some people need to know:GOOD VOICE-ACTING AND A LACK OF CATCHPHRASES AN ANIME DOES NOT MAKE!!!! I just wanted to get that off of my chest, because some people dont like the english dub just, because of a stupid reason like that!!! (I'm not calling people who do this stupid, just the reason some people do it stupid.)

AGH! It's really annoying. Although they don't have "believe it" as much in Uzumaki Chronicles
Besides, the subbed version has better voices. And sometimes the English dub doesn't connect, y'know? And the subbed is a LOT farther along.
