In this old vs. new, we're looking in-depth at the blue bomber: Mega Man.

And yes, I didn't play this either, but I did look at a recent games, I also read the manga for Battle Network and looked at the games. :P

So what do you prefer? The good old linearity platforming with different battles of boss robots and variety and challenge of levels with little variation on the theme? Or the new ones with storylines, varying themes and more highlights?

Sorry about before, I'm starting to run out of Old and News I've played. Thanks Digital for pointing that out. =3

Kirby is Kirby. I don't see any difference in them at all.

Thanks for pointing this out, round two. And I'll ask someone to edit the title.

Okay, now I can say this:

MEGAMAN IS AMAZING AND THERE WAS NO GAME BETWEEN X6 AND X8

CLASSIC GAMES ARE CHALLENGING AND I LOVE THEM

ZERO WILL ALWAYS BE MY FAVORITE

    MEGAMAN POWERED UP WAS AMAZIIIIIIIIING~

Mega Man is gaming's most significant character. Each game he stars in expresses both what businesses do and what fans want during a generation of the gaming industry. Just imagining going from the Atari 2600 to the fully realized and identifiable cartoon face of Mega Man truly blows my mind. It's exactly what fans expected out of a home gaming console. Capcom sold features and upgrades with each new installment on the NES because it's just what was being done at the time. It added to the fun where nobody wanted change.

Mega Man X years later showed the same evolution where everything was expected to be different and more powerful. There's no gushing on this game I can do that Egoraptor didn't already do.

Even if we were draw the Old vs New line there, old would still win. Whether or not we include the PS line up is irrelevant entirely, it would just add more glory to the name and further my point what with fully voiced and animated cutscenes to large open, 3D worlds.

Mega Man is my favorite character in gaming. I have never seen an almost sub-culture grow and center around one fictional character before complete with their own knowledge base full of references to the series, even if it's just recognizing Crash Man's stage song, with such genuine affection in such a massive volume. I sincerely wish he'd make a come back in some sort.

X6 didn't happen either okay :'C it makes me want to throw things. Great music, but it's infuriating to play (Mega Man games are hard... X6 is cheap) and it ruined the series continuity by stupidly messing with a story arc that was clearly already resolved. SIGHH. If it wasn't for Zero's ending I'd just pretend it wasn't canon.

The X series is my favorite so I'll forever be sore about X6 and X7 lol. But in any case, I'm not sure I would judge the series based on old vs. new so much as looking at each subseries individually. There are some really great quality newer games, and some great old ones... And some of both that are awful too, lol. Of course, some people would definitely swear by the Classic series, and I won't argue that it's the most iconic and gave the series its identity. Which series you enjoy most boils down to personal preference because each one is a bit of a different genre.

In terms of gameplay and presentation, the X & Zero series are my top choice... I sort of lump them together since they're more of a continuation of each other than most of the other spinoffs, but that isn't to say they're indistinct from each other either I guess. All that said, I'm not sure if that would qualify me as siding with 'new' or not since they're not exactly new games, but they are evolutions of the original formula.

    P. Filling. c:

I'm not a fan of the classic series. Personally I see it as inferior to the X series in every way. The original series had a minimal story and that was okay but with that being said, it pales in comparison to the events of the X series. X4, X5, and X8 anyone? The X series introduced wall climbing and dashing(infinitely better than Mega Man's stupid slide >>). It fleshed out Dr. Light's character even though he was dead. Plus the X series is the most famous case for the constant revivals of its main antagonist(Sigma) and second protagonist(Zero). THEY JUST NEVER DIE.

Oh and Megaman X6 is still enjoyable to me...in a masochistic sort of way. It makes X even more badass but then X7 happened...but at least we got X8 out of it and that redeemed the series.

Anyways, I've tried the original series a few times. It was just never my kind of game. The X series felt so much better to me. It was faster without becoming easy.

Original: Love it, but I haven't played much of it. Mostly 2, little bit of 3-5, almost beat 9 and 10.

X series: Love it, but again, barely scratched the surface. Played a lot of 1 and 2.

Battle Network: BEST DEY EVA WAS. Played and beat every game except 4, which people tell me is the black sheep, though I still want to try it.

Zero series: WHY WAS MM SO GODLIKE ON GBA. Beat all four games, love 'em to death.

ZX series: Big shoes to fill, but they're definitely not bad. Haven't gotten far in any of them.

As for the rest, haven't played them, so I can't say.
