Oh boy...

They were good, just overused. Hollywood needs a bit more originality. Reusing the same worn out ideas gets pretty boring.

 

Why are you guys getting on Man of Steel when it hasn't even come out yet? It looks so much better than Superman Returns as well as a lot of previous Marvel films, not to mention that we already know there won't be kryptonite in the film, so that we don't get that annoying cliched story: instead, we can focus on her actual characteristic flaws and shortcomings.

Yeah it's not completely original but at least it looks good.

 

I'm not saying it's going to be a bad movie, I haven't even seen it yet of course. I'm saying the basis of the storyline is from an overused idea. It can still be a good movie, even if it's overused.

 

You know what else is overused?

The Hero's Journey.

You like Star Wars, right? Harry Potter?

They're practically interchangeable.



This doesn't mean they're inherently bad at all though, because they manage to make the plots and characters and events all have enough personality and development to differentiate them. It goes beyond just the concepts being sci-fi vs. magic.

I'm basically saying that originality is really, really hard to actually do. What's more important is to do a story right.
