In Detective Comics #880, After Bruce Wayne "died" and Dick Grayson became Batman, he found the Joker (who was being framed as a culprit in attacking the Gordons) in the sewers and they had this interesting conversation:
Batman: "You can't hide from me, Joker."
Joker: "No! Of course not! Everyone knows bats can see in the dark! So I say...let there be light! You're not my BAT! My bat has wings of fleshhhh...skin between the fingerrs. You smell like feathers, little bird. No, you're not a bat at all, are you? No, no no...But you'll have to do! I came down here to rest...to sleep and dream, and then to be born again, wet and new, when my bat returns! But you're keeping me up! Keeping us all up! Me and my friends! hee-heeeeeee. eeee-heeeee!
