As DF pointed out, it was Xehanort's fault (who we thought was actually Ansem, but whatev). Not Kairi's. When Kairi was sent to Destiny Islands, she was very young, as it points out in the game. So, I highly disagree that it was her fault because of this reason.

Riku's younger years is also another good reason, like some of you said yourselves. He wanted to go on "real adventures."

So, I agree with most of you. Not her fault.

I don't think it was Kairi's fault at all.
Riku just likes the dark and thought of it way before remember?
The one scene when he's in the cave with Sora and he's like, "Let's get off this island when we grow up....blah blah..explore...blah blah."
And then Kairi moved there to Destiny Islands from Hollow Bastion.

    <3 I agree

I don't think Kairi can be blamed. It was never her personal intention to cause trouble and though she may have been a small factor in Riku's questioning of other worlds, I don't see her as the main influence.

I think it was one of those things that was meant to happen xD Destiny.

Screw Xenahort and Kairi, it can't be your fault if you don't know what's gonna happen.

It was Riku's fault. He couldn't stand that Kairi liked Sora more then him and that Sora was the wielder of the Keyblade and that he teamed up with Goofy and Donald. He was just jealous, and along with the encouraging of Maleficent caused him to walk over to the dark side. He says how he's not afraid of darkness and how he controls it, but conversely that just shows how much it consumes him.

At the end I do believe Riku is pure again, when he closes the door to Kingdom Hearts with Sora & co. Haven't played KHII yet so I don't know what he's like in that.

Actually, the kids were taken advantage of. All of them were.

Kairi - was used to go to DI so that Xehanort's Heartless could find the new Keyblade wielder which was Riku. It's not her fault she was captured and sent out to find him. Blame Xehanort's Heartless.

Riku - was -not- jealous of Sora over Kairi as much as people say. He was even coaxing Sora to ask her to go out with him. He would not have played around with it and tried to motivate Sora if he was so jealous. He became mad at Sora later because he appeared to not be helping Kairi along with Riku. Riku's flaw that he wanted to be 'needed' by his friends so they would not leave him was what Maleficent used. Before that, he was a typical kid that just wanted to go adventuring with the two people he cared about most. He wasn't a bad kid. Blame Xehanort's Heartless.

Sora - had Kairi's Heart in him through the game and did not figure it out till the end. A lot of things would have changed had he realized it. He was the only really 'free agent' of the game that was not misled or used like the others were. He found good people and did things for others until he hit Hollow Bastion.

In the end, the 3 kids were all decent kids and had Xehanort's Heartless not intervened, they all would have been fine where they were. Xehanort destroyed a world pretty much and sent out Heartless to do worse. I don't get why people keep blaming Kairi or Riku because both were just teenagers that were thrust into a world of problems that were bigger than what any normal kid would face.

Hmm yeah you're right. Well even if the kids were deceived, Riku chose for his own to join Maleficent. Sora offered Riku to join em', but he refused. Then later Riku offered Sora to join him, but obviously Sora couldn't do that either.

In the end he was a little jealous that Sora had "replaced" him.

But who cares whose fault it is. What happened happened, and nobody could really help it.

Well if Kairi didn't think that all up, you wouldn't be on this forum. ;D

Nah..in all seriousness...I think it is a mixture of everything.
They would have been seperated eventually because Donald and Goofy had to find the keyblader.Although it would take along time,it would happen.
    Ansem, Xenmas or Xehnort[SPL?SORRY]
Would eventually gotten to Destiny Islands.
I guess this part in the game is showing: EVERYTHING HAPPENS FOR A REASON. Sora would not be equiped properly, since the darkness would have come because of the door, Riku wouldn't be the keyblade master,
Actually come to think of it.It would be everyone's fault. 0_0

Riku ended up being transported to Hollow Bastion. He searched for his friends but Maleficent found him. She took him to see Sora at Traverse Town but also put it in his head that Sora had new friends and didn't 'need' Riku anymore.

Riku, despite this, went to see Sora but Donald pretty well refused to let Riku go along with them on their journey and Sora had agreed to find the King, which well, left Kairi missing. Riku was frustrated because Donald refused to let him go and Sora's weak response to Donald was not enough at the time because of the words Maleficent told Riku. Keep in mind that Riku's flaw was that he wanted his friends to need him so they wouldn't abandon him. It probably means that at sometime in Riku's past, he did lose someone he really cared about and felt it was because he wasn't useful enough. This is speculation but many kids go through this when things happen like divorce.

Riku was not jealous that 'Sora' replaced him. He was jealous that Donald and Goofy replaced him. Sora was his best friend. What he says at Hollow Bastion as far as them being competitors was because he was very corrupted and falling to Darkness, he was desperate and he was frustrated. He wanted to save Kairi and just pretty much get away from the others since well, he was 'replaced'. In the end, he wasn't thinking clearly and was a tormented being. Basically, Sora and Riku just did not have time to talk things out and come to understandings and both were stubborn in their own ways.

Sora never offered to join Riku. He offered to let Riku join him with Donald and Goofy but Donald utterly refused and Sora did not really offer up a strong rebuttal. In the end, that's why Riku went off, because Maleficent had already said that his friend didn't need him anymore and he became determined to find Kairi, since Sora was off looking for the King, even though of course, Sora was wanting to find Kairi too.

...Hmm. I don't see how that works out. How is it that your two friends both happening to have crushes on you equals you being a whore? It's not as if she can control who likes her. I've never understood people calling her a whore or anything related to that.

If Kairi hadn't come to the islands, it would've happened, just differently.

The heartless would've came to DI anyways, in search of the world's heart, or maybe just following the keyblade.
Maybe without Kairi's influence Riku would actually stay "right" and keep the keyblade.
or he would've went to darkness anyway and Sora would've ended up with the keyblade (fate)

And then to stop Maleficient and Xehanort's Heartless (Ansem) they would need to rescue the 7 Princesses of Heart and would've ended up meeting Kairi regardless of her not being sent to Destiny Island.

Which means she would've stayed at Hollow Bastion when it fell to the darkness so either she would end up losing herself to darkness (and Namine would be born a hell of a lot sooner, but wouldn't be have a connection to Sora) OR she would've ended up at Traverse Town with Leon and Co. Either way Sora and Riku would meet her.

But did Xehanort's Heartless send Kairi directly to Destiny Island? If so how did he know that's where the keybearer was?
Or did he just send her out to space/seas/gummi dimension(?) and that by pure CHANCE she finds the keyblade?

OMG!! Kairi is now a terrible person O=. Just kidding. I never really thought about it before. Possibly, because Riku is curious, it would have happened eventually, but not in the same way....and if the worlds had fallen apart, Kairi and Riku and Sora wouldn't have been searching for each other...everything would have turned out differently...scary...

If she never came to the island, then we wouldn't have the exciting story of Kingdom Hearts. So she just made the story interesting. Would you want to play a whole game of just stuck on a tiny island fighting with wooden swords?

Well, I think that Riku WOULD have eventually figured out that they should leave, but he only thought of it that much sooner with Kairi. I don't hate her for it, it's actually thanks to her that most of Kingdom Hearts even took place.
