I was on deviant art and I decided to look at prints > photography. And of course there was some pictures with naked women or men. Then my step dad came and I quickly switched away becuase well they're might've been one there. And so he asked if I was looking at porn I replied "no, it's art". What do you think?
The nude human form was always a favorite stretching back as far as people were drawing pictures in the sand. But it is the Greek and Roman masters that mastered the art of the human form, making the curves soft and natural. I could point out many examples such as Boticelli's 'The Birth of Venus' or Michelangelo's 'David'. Those pieces, along with many others are considered art. It was the religious movement that would eventually destroy such works in favor of the more somber Orthodox style like in the Russian icons. These figures are harsh and stiff and overall cold. To spare you the long history, the line between art and porn would depend on the individual viewing them. Some look at the 'David' in art museums and consider it porn while others consider Playboy to be art. It's a matter of debate that doesn't have a clear outcome. To me, I think if the human body is presented in a tasteful way, then yes to me it is art. But if it is in a vulgar fashion, then it becomes porn.
Nudity Art is art to me. I see nothing wrong with showing someone naked in a pose, a picture drawn, a portrait painted, a picture taken or a sculpture done etc of someone nude. It's a 'body' and we all have them, don't we? I agree with what Laurence_Fox said. If it's a pose or done for a purpose of expression, that is art. If it done where it is tasteless, vulgar and just in your face sex stuff, well, that's porn. Porn, to me, is just vulgar expressed sexual art in its way, to get a reaction of stimulating sex. Seeing someone nude doesn't always cause that reaction and those who worry so much about 'David' and other things like that are really silly to me. Seeing nude pictures or sculptures can teach people what's really there under clothing and apparently some people are afraid of that knowledge.
heh it counts on how someone sees it as to me i think it would probley be porn but to some other ppl it might be art its just my opinion but i think that its porn plz no hate
Nudity Art is art to me but... In my opinion, there's a bit too much of it. A grayscale woman in a contorted pose is only beautiful the first couple times you see it. After that... eh, it gets old.
Is that not the same with a lot of other art? Really if it is just expressive and 'tasteful' (a word with debateable meaning) then it is art. But I would consider porn to be media created specifically to only have adult content. It really all depends on what the most important point of the media is, if it is about sexual acts then it is porn, if it is about a hidden meaning or expression of an idea then it is art. Lol I make sense :) [/sarcasm]
The nude form is a popular subject in art and exists in most if not all cultures. A site such as deviantArt will contain nude images of the artistic form, but this is not pornography as it is tasteful and is a study of form. There are many classical nudes, as quoted by Laurence Fox, and these are highly thought of. In order to study art and the effect of light and shadow, the human form is often used and this is not seen as 'smutty' or 'pornography'. The latter is cheap, crude and often offensive amusement, whereas nude art is a study of the beauty of nature.
Just because you see a person naked doesn't necessarily make it porn, unless you decide to make it porn. >_> But I think that porn doesn't fall under the category of nudity. Now, if it shows a person doing something(masturbation or anything of the sort) then I guess you could call it porn. :/
Completely reasonable. Now, of course HBO past 10:00 isn't art, but in the case of Deviant Art, I'd like to hope it's art. XDDDD
That depends. If I were to post Hentai right now would I get in trouble? Or would it just be labeled as "art"?
Hmm, yes, probably it would be considered porn to most people. I think anything actually showing 'sex' such as masturbation, sex between two or more people, acts of sex such as grabbing someone's sex parts etc for the most part would be considered porn, whereas if someone or some people are just posed naked or loitering around in the nude, it would be more art. Of course, I realize that it is in the end a total opinion, but that's generally how I separate it. I would not mind if a 'kid' sees naked David or something like that but it would not be a good idea to show them pictures from Penthouse or Hustler. Playboy and Playgirl kind of do pictures most of the time that are tasteful (at least in my opinion) so I am torn whether or not that could be considered art. I can say though that when I was practicing drawing people, because I often start them off in sketches as being 'nude' and then add clothes onto them after, that I used Playboy and Playgirl magazines as well as muscle magazines to get people's anatomy as correct as I could.
Yes, it is very much the same as a lot of other art. XD A lot of younger people would shy away from Nudity Art, just as adults turn away from more cartoony art. The way Nudity Art is recieved by the masses, I guess, is really... erm... disappointing. A lot of people take it the wrong way; it's a shame, really. It really is art, in the notion that a lot of art styles are misunderstood, and that there are "right" and "wrong" ways of doing it (the "wrong" way being a more sexual subject instead of expression). And like all art styles, it takes many years of practice to master.
Guys please remember that there /are/ a lot of kids on this site, so just watch you don't get too carried away with the content of your posts. Anyway, IMO the human form is art, so why can't it be expressed that way? I see nothing wrong iwth it. Though again, as others have said, it is down to taste and portrayal. Art is something that can only ever really be understood by the artist, it is, afterall, their expression. It is human interpretation that labels it after, and that varies from person to person, so really, this can't be answered. It is down to personal opinion of what counts as art and what counts as porn. A couple of hundred years ago, a woman showing her ankle or her wrists was considered verging on porn. Times change, opinion changes, like everything else.
... There is a thick line between Nudity Art and Pornography. You'd find pornography in the magazine Playboy... And you'd find Nudity Art on canvas in an art exhibition. So what you were looking up, in my opinion, would be classified as art. :\
How the picture is presented is what defines Art and Porn. Porn is shown as a way to arouse someone, while Nudity art makes you think what the peson modelling it, is trying to get across. Art over many centuries has revolved around the thought of Humans making something beautiful, using tehniques to express emotions and ideas across, to others. A persons body, in many cases, is the most personal space you have. A special thing that you control who you show it too. While in other cases, it is nothing special, something that can be used to get what you want. Now whether it is art or not, is up completly to the person vieing it, some think it vulgar becasue they believe the person to just show off. But in my opinion, it is not true, it takes people with much courage to allow countless people judge they body, because your body is precious to everyone. If they have the courage to do such a thing, they deserve our respect. I would like to see how many people here have the courage to flaunt their own body to others in such a way.
Art is somthing made with time, it is sharing your creativity, and letting others enjoy it. I would say art.
