Zane sighed, Catherine must be busy with something. He wanted a response but it would have to wait until tomorrow. Climbing the stairs he slid into bed, next to Mya and lazily pulled half her body onto his.

Zee held her close to him as he shut his eyes and drifted into sleep. His dreams turned into visions of blood and that same woman's scream of surprise and pain. "You...but! W-wait, what are you doing?! Hold on! You're...with him? You bas-" her words were cut off with a gurgling sound and Zee's eyes flew open. In such a short time of sleep, he was covered in sweat. Settling down, outside the covers, he breathed deeply and tried to lull himself into a dreamless sleep.

 

Mya shuffled in her sleep and nuzzled Zane.

Sasha was still fast asleep.

 

Early the next morning Zane woke to find Zee pacing the halls. "Hey...you okay? When did you get back? Where's Catherine? How's Haru?"

Zee turned bloodshot eyes on his friend, "What's with all the pestering questions Zane!? Jeez, can't a guy have some peace for a minute?!" Zane gave him a concerned look and backed off, "Alright, alright, no need to raise your voice."

 

Mya reached out for the area where Zane was supposed to be, but opened her eyes when she felt empty air. She sat up and looked around. Huh. Where did he go?

Sasha was still asleep, dreaming about her and Zee on a boat watching the sunset peacefully.

 

Zee was still railing, "You always ask pestering questions! Always have to know about where I've been, what I did! Damn you, why can't you just leave me alone?!" Zane frowned at his sudden outburst, "Would you lower your voice. It's early, people are sleeping. I'm only asking because I sent you on a specific mission and Catherine hasn't come back, here you are and now you refuse to tell me the information I ask for? Zee, what's gotten into you?" In a blind, frantic rage, Zee lashed out at Zane, shoving him against Zane and Mya's door to their room. "What's gotten into me?! I'm tired of being watched, Zane! I'm tired of all the questions! I can't have any privacy around here!" Zane felt confused, "Wh-what...what are you rambling about?"

 

Mya jumped at the shout of Zee. What's with him? She pulled on her cloths and peeked outside.

 

By the second time Zee had shouted his real name, Zane had no patience left for the boy. "That's enough!" he struck him across the jaw, flinging him to the floor. "Zee, get ahold of yourself! You sound like a blabbering idiot!"

Zee held his jaw and stared at Zane"I...I...Za-Reaper...I don't know what to say..."

"How about you stop talking altogether. By now, I'm sure you've woken the entire villa." Zane sighed and leaned against the wall, "Idiot..." Zane watched as other assassins stuck their heads out of their doors and he gave them a sympathetic look, "Go back to sleep fellas, nothin' to see here."

 

Mya stepped out and approached them. Hey is everyhing alright? I heard lots of shouting.

 

Zane wrapped his arms around her and cast a hateful look down at Zee, "Nah, it's all good. At least, it will be if Zee quits his blabbering."

Zee sighed and mournfully stared at the floor, "I'm...sorry, I didn't mean to wake everybody. They...I...I just have a lot on my mind and I guess..." "You guess it got the better of you. Cool off, Zee. I don't think it's a good idea for you to be around Sasha like this."

 

Mya sighed. Don't push yourself Zee. Just relax and enjoy yourself.

 

Zee seemed to space out without hearing Mya's words.

Zane sighed, "I've no idea what's gotten into him. It's like he's a different person. Zee? Hey, Zee!" He waved his hand in front of Zee's face and got no response. "Maybe you should ask Sasha if he's been acting wierd lately. I'll keep an eye on Zee."

 

Mya frowned and nodded. Yea I should. Zee's been acting wierd lately. She headed over to Zee's room.

 

Zane nervously poked at Zee, he spoke quietly into his ear, "Hey buddy, everything alright?" Zee blinked, unfreezing, "Oh, Zane, I've done something horrible. You'll never forgive me for this...never." "Zee? What did you do that was so awful?"

 

Mya entered Sasha's room and sat next to her. Hey Sasha? Was Zee acting strange today? Sasha shook her head. I don't think so. He acted alright...

 

Zee's wild eyes met Zanes and for a split second, Zane was afraid of what Zee had done. "I...I killed someone's dog on the way back from spying on Haru." Zane felt as if a lead tension had just settled over them and one wrong word of accusation would break that tension and Zee would flip, "Zee, that's a pretty bad thing to have done. I want you to lie low for a while. Rest, relax...okay?" Zee nodded, he sighed and his shoulders slumped as if a great wieght had been lifted. Zane could see right throug his act. He hadn't killed a pet, he'd done something similar though. Something he feared was even worse and would affect his friend greatly.

 

Mya shrugged. I just wanted to know. See ya. She left the room and headed back to hers.

 

Zane let Zee wander around outside. He observed him from his window and frowned. "Mya...I don't think he's going to tell me this one."

 

Mya sighed. Got nothing either. Mayer Sasha doesn't know or she doesn't realize it.

 

Zane sighed and turned toward her. He looked older than normal and tired. "I don't know what to do if Zee keeps lying to me. He's been my friend and partner since we were kids." He groped at his neck and found a new necklace. A silver chain hung limply around his neck with a simple little plate attatched to it, reading "Harmony is our Love". "Somehow...I don't believe what he's telling me. I don't think killing a family pet is that severe to him. Not that he'd flip out about it."

 

Mya leaned over till her head bumped his chest. Maybe he needs time. Let's give him a few days. Then he might tell us.
