Birth by Sleep Nomura: Kingdom Hearts 3 is NOT The Next KH to be Out

"In this week's Famitsu, Nomura talked about more than just Final Fantasy Versus XIII possibly not being ready for E3 2010. As with most likely EVERY Famitsu interview the man gives, he was asked about his most famous franchise, Kingdom Hearts. This time, he noted two important things, both about the future of the series.

1-The next game in the series will not be called KH3 and will not star Sora. Instead, you will play another integral character. This game will connect the complicated stories spread across previous titles... but we've yet to hear about a platform or a release date.

2- He wants a KH title to be released every year in order to keep the fans pleased... presumably, at this rate, the next one will be coming in 2011... and I'm guessing that it'll be the one noted above.

Yearly iterations, eh? I don't know about you, but to me, something just doesn't sound right here... and I know what that "something" is, too. Yearly iterations of a franchise, especially an RPG one, is dangerous business that could lead to a drop in game quality.

When prompted to answer whether we'll see KH3 in 2012, Nomura refused to answer. However, this doesn't mean he doesn't want it out at all. he actually wants it out ASAP.

The entire interview is on KHI, I read through it and he didn't say anything about the next title not being called KH3 & not starring Sora; only that it would also star another character (as stated slightly in Mike's update). I didn't read very carefully, so I may be wrong, but this doesn't sound accurate to me.

 

Reconnect. And if Sora isn't in it, it won't be Reconnect.

 

The only integral characters I can think of apart from Sora are Mickey, Riku, and Aqua.

 

This is most likely true. Since a bunch of rumors have been going around about some Mystery Kingdom Hearts being next. It's probably a Riku game.

Personally, I think this is another distraction. Stop wasting everyone's time and get to KH3. We've been waiting this long.

It's a puzzle game featuring either Naminé as she pieces together Sora's memories, or Apprentice Xehanort, as he makes new friends, rises to the top of the pizza chemical industry, and plots to DESTROY THE WORLDS.

Sorry, but I can't read Japanese so I really don't know if the translation they got is or not accurate :P

But, either way this actually makes some sense.. I wouldn't really be all that surprised if indeed the next KH wasn't KH 3. We need a kind of bridge that connects all the games ( KH 1, KH 2, CoM, 358/2, BbS and Coded) so that not only we can better understand the whole story we can also get some kind of premise or preview even for what is actually going to be KH 3.

Just my opinion though.

 

The Gamefaqs forum translators stated something slightly different about this interview, and that was the fact that Sora would be in it, but there would be another very important person in the spotlight.

I was thinking something along the lines of this being almost like Recconect & Reverse/Rebirth 2.

Y'know... Sora's story, and Riku's story...?

I remember Nomura saying not too long ago that after KINGDOM HEARTS Birth by Sleep we will see a lot more Sora.

 

Sure, but that doesn't necessarily mean that all the future KH games will feature him, right? I mean he could make a game about Riku or Mickey ( yeah, haven't played BbS nor did I spoil it for me, so I don't know if they have some story/character development for these two in that game).

Anyway, I think that at E3 we will get some news about the next KH project. Or at least I hope we get some news..

 

It could be about Riku's side of the story between KH1 and late KH2, sans CoM.

Seeing as how 358/2 Days was really well recieved, I could see it on the DS.

 

Nomura has said that any "Numbered" KH game will have Sora as the main character. So the next KH probably won't be KHIII.

 

Unless you're talking about from here on in, I'd like to add the detail that not all KH games with Sora as the main character is a numbered KH.

Well, that's not Sora. That's a Data Sora - a digital duplicate. Nomura meant the real thing.

I call that Data Sora 'Tara' for easy discrimination.

I said any numbered KH game belongs to sora, i didn't say he couldn't be in other non-numbered games. Nomura didn't say anything like that...

knowing Square these days, it's going to be a game about Riku or maybe Axel. Square seem money spammed these days and they would be most likely to make a game about the games most poplaur characters, since Lea is in Birth by sleep and dies in KH2 would say that it's going to be about Riku..

But this game is going to delay KH3 even further ! is so furious at Square at the moment for doing this, was hoping that KH3 would be out by 2012..

What if I die before KH3 comes out ?
Square never thinks about those things do they ? they just want money..

 

I can understand Riku. But Axel?
They've milked enough out of him. I highly doubt there'll be a game about him.

That's a good way of putting it, but seriously Normura has to tie up a lot of loose ends before he makes Kingdom Hearts III. So many different aspects concerning the characters that have yet to be discovered but hinted upon by Birth by Sleep. For example, the creation of the heartless and nobodies that became the first six organization XIII members, the questions regarding how Lea got the purple tatoo marks under his eyes, before becoming Axel, the "X" across Isa's face that his nobody Saix has, what members IX-XII looked like as their former selves before becoming Demyx, Luxord, Marluxia and Larxene and also Aqua and her importance and role. Will not say other things for that spoil something for those who do not know.
