No real waves in Destiny Islands ocean...

Okay, this might sound really dumb, and somebody else probably figured this out way before me, but I just have to share it... I was thinking about the ocean at Destiny Islands, and it's always bugged me that there's no real waves there. It just calmy creeps up to the shore a bit, recedes, and repeats the same process with no variables (when I say "no variables" I mean it never creeps up farther than it did before or goes back farther than it did before). Whenever I have gone to the beach I have just watched the waves and wondered, Why isn't it like that at Destiny Islands? Then just today I realized, Duh, because there's no moon there! There is no moon with the gravitational pull required to cause waves. Also, the wind doesn't blow very hard there, so I guess that's a factor too. Haha I felt kind of smart and pretty dumb at the same time. XD So, there you have it. Anybody want to add to this? Contradict me? Other?

From a technical point of view, it's most likely because the PS2 can't handle simulating super-realistic water.

About the moon thing, I'm pretty sure even without a moon to pull the water there'd still be waves of variable size. Pretty sure storms can happen without the moon, for example.

The game was made in 2001, of course there are no waves. Even if it was made in today's time and released on a nextgen console like the PS3 or the 360, I doubt that they would put in THAT much attention to detail.

Otherwise, I guess you do have points from a scientific point of view. It just never bothered me enough to think about it, hah.

i didn't really notice. i was too busy hitting coconut trees thinking that by collecting 100 coconuts it would help me get ahead in the game somehow later. lol.

 

It's only meant to be subtle. If they put too much effort into creating an unpredictable set of waves then it'd take up more space than it'd need to.
