I'll make sure to spoiler tag the rumors in this runour thread : p

I doubt it'll work to the degree they're expecting. It might do in theory, but really, i believe anyone informed will buy the freer sounding system of the two. Having a closed system is good to a degree, but mainly for the company not much for the consumer. Hopefully they shed a bit of light on things at the reveal though.

Which Console isn't a closed system? The only one I can think of right now is the Ouya, but it's not like consoles being closed systems is a new thing, right?

In other news, Watch_Dogs has been confirmed as a launch title for PS4! Yay!

Yeah, not too fond of online activation. Sure its not as bad as always-online idiocy, but it still means that you're likely to be ****ed if you buy a popular game on day 1. Not to mention that there's already a great way of keeping people from installing rented games already in the XBox 360: Requiring the disc to be in the console.

At the very least, they elevated me from a "will not buy" to a "might possibly buy if things work out and we never see day 1 outages for any game of any kind."

You know, despite how graphically disturbing the PS3 commercials were...

Youtube it if you don't know what I'm talking about.

They really stuck in your mind. They showed a lot of the games coming out and they brought something that you would remember even if it wasn't fully the system. Something about it just stuck and made it unforgettable that made you remember it was PS3.

Having taken several business classes including marketing, I don't see anything that really stuck in my mind. Nothing made it special for me to remember. The music was okay, the imagery, eh... But if I see the console in the store in the future or am asked what I thought of the PS4 commercial in E3 by someone in three weeks. I won't have remembered it. Maybe they'll do better, but it was in my POV very unforgettable, even if they are trying to hide the design of the PS4, there's nothing there that convinced me more to buy the system. But that's just me.

It does look okay, exactly like the other two systems, really, especially PS3.

These aren't the main adverts for the public. The sort of ads you are thinking of will come around the release of the console. The big marketing push will come later.

These are ads aimed at us, the hardcore gamer who follows the latest news. They don't need to be weird or rememberable, nor do conventional gaming adverts work on us, we are far to savy for it and tend to listen to the facts not the glamour. It's just simply a teaser to get the press and us consumers to talk about the PS4 before the NextBox announcement tomorrow. Since we are talking about it now, it's working. This week will be bombarded with Xbox news, so Sony are teasing something now so that the press/shows/podcasts are talking about both consoles and not just the Xbox and try and steal some of it's spotlight no matter how small.

You're probably right, DA... But as a diehard gamer, I still don't have much interest, though I didn't have much to begin with. And duly noted, libre. lolz...

I do have to admit, you have a point though about the twitter hype going through the roof for PS4, though.

Dunno, like I said before, I really am not interested in the consoles unless they come it with a spectacular must play game. Even KHIII if I have to shell 400-500 bucks for a system makes me hesitate.

Yeah, the twitter list is sad. And knowing Xbox, they might and they might not. They havee been quiet about this, it might be a good idea since jumping the gun could get them burned more than waiting if they really don't know what promising games they have. Since they share practically the same library as Playstation now, not including Halo and a few other series, it really has to catch the public's eye to compete against Sony.
