So, this is actually happening and it is happening sooner than I thought. I'm excited and scared for what it could be. Either way, it should be interesting to see what this ends up being.

If the actor who plays Wander is good, then the movie will be good. I think it's riding on who they have as cast and who is directing more than who they screenplay for it. In my opinion, I think having an unknown actor with a big name director would be suitable for this kind of film that I'd imagine it would be.

We'll just have to wait and see and fidget in our seats.

And the producer too. They've got their grubby hands on everything from beginning till end. They can make or break the movie, but so can anything else. I am concerned that the movie won't be a good translation of the game. What made the game so great might not make the movie great. I will see in in theaters (because giant colossi would look amazing on the big screen). I'm just hoping this doesnt end up being another video game movie they mess up.

Eh, I can't see this as a film. Films rely on dialogue, who will Wanda talk to, having a voiced Wanda will ruin his character....

Just don't see this kind of thing as movie worthy. Maybe a cartoon mini series but a full blow movie, can't see it.

Well will have to wait and see if it hits the light of day.

What? Not all films do... Just because it has a script, doesn't mean there's going to be an ounce of dialogue.

Yeah, I agree. It just depends on the execution of it. The name escapes me but there was a short movie based on a play by Samuel Beckett that had zero dialogue but still was able to move the plot along. On the plus side, movies have the advantage of focusing closely to visuals and details rather than to find action through dialogue and conversations (the latter of which is more important in plays and in some types of video games).

What I hope to imagine is that they'll have to spew dialogue for the exposition's sake in like the beginning of the movie, but the filmmakers should definitely keep Wander relatively silent throughout.

I've seen Hana and this may be true. But honestly the lack of a lot dialogue didn't help that film's development for a rather plain character.
I'm not going to be too entertained, personally, of an hour and a half of almost a complete lack of dialogue. You can get away with it in a game with a much better effect, a film is another matter.

    But again, we'll see.

Well, the game still had dialogue, from Dormin and so on... So it's not as if the movie will be totally silent. Wander is just as likely to not have dialogue. Of course, it will be difficult to communicate a character without words, but that's what silent films had done. It's not an unfathomable impossibility.

Of course, it wouldn't like be impossible but i am always quiet wary of video game movies. Resident Evil for example is just unfathomable in its bad writing quality in most all their movies, and of course Silent Hill. Both of those gaming series had great atmosphere but it was all ruined from the conversion from the video game to the big screen.

I'd be happy if thise is bang on form, but evidence and past expectation has left me feeling more glass half empty in video game films.

Who wants to bet that the movie will be about some fresh faced young lad who is going on the Journey of slaying the Colossi because one of them destroyed his home town and he'l be joined by his wacky comic relief best friend named Agro?

Do you honestly think that will happen? It feels like they will try to keep the tone of the games. Not completely massacre it.

It's the movie industry, my friend. Name one live action video game movie that wasn't complete garbage that deviated from the source material?

I don't think you're giving this a fair chance. It's not ****ing Tomb Raider or Bloodrayne. It's more artistic and has to be approached a certain way. It's not testosterone-fueled, so I think this has a good chance of being true to the game and not really silly. Even if it is bad, I doubt it will veer off track too much.

I'm just jaded when it comes to adaptations of video games to the big screen. So I feel it is better to hold no hope and be pleseantly surprised if it does turn out to be good then to have hope and be disappointed when it turns out to be awful.

One thing I hope they don't screw up is the visuals. Shadow of the Colossus was a beautiful game for its time, and with technology as it is today the movie could be too. Hell if they use the same tech they used for Avatar (which is a beautiful move even if I don't like it) they could make it look stunning!

To be honest, I do not have high hopes for any videogame film that is coming out, if the film is good, that is a sigh of relief for the fans, if it is bad, then the fans have to live with the thought of a terrible film about the franchise that people will mock the series for.

People normally separate the games from the movies. the Super Mario Bros. movie was terrible, but you don't see people mocking the series as whole because of it.

Good point, but I was stating more for the fans, but, yes, fair point.

I just can't think of SOTC being a film, it just doesn't seem right.

    My concerns in a nutshell.

When you think about it, SOTC has a rather simple plot. It's about a guy who takes a dead chick to a forbidden temple and makes a deal with what is pretty much a demonic entity to bring her back to life by killing sixteen Colossi. Most of the game is traveling to locations, slay a colossus, go back to temple, Dormin tells you to go kill another, lather, rinse, repeat. It's only towards the end do we get any more plot development when Lord Emon shows up.

Not much in terms of movie potential.
