It's about time. I mean really, how is it right to deny someone a marriage just because they have a different orientation than you?
How would you feel if you couldn't get married for being straight?

I think this is good due to the legal status. It gives a sense of importance and permanency, even though they can divorce. Not to mention the benefits received for being married.

So yeah, it's a pretty good thing.

    About time.

It'd probably help to separate the legal and religious definitions of matrimony. There's no reason not to give gays the same legal rights as heterosexual couples, but I can see a valid argument for churches not being forced to marry them against the religion.

Really, a separation of church and state is required. Once that happens, everything else becomes considerably easier.

    *gives brofist to New York*

This has been a long time coming. Thank God for this.
I do hope that eventually America stops being so damn stupid and legalizes same-sex marriage all around.
I mean, really? It's their sexual orientation. It's foolish and restrictive to prevent people who love each other to get married.

So thank you, New York. Now spread your intelligence throughout the world.

Hoorah! Love is in the New York air! :'3
I was so happy to hear this news this morning. It really made me smile and I hope it follows through to the rest of the States.
Also, hopefully, it will follow through to other countries. That would be awesome.

I'm glad to hear this! ^^ I'm not American but I'm still glad to hear same sex marriages being legalised. I do hope other cities do the same as it shows how times are changing and how we're finally accepting the large diversity of people and their views.

I found it very "disrespectful" that they wouldnt allow people of the same gender to marry. If you love someone of the same gender then thats it. It really shouldnt matter if their the same sex, as long as they make each other happy. So, New York is doing whats right. :D

I was glad to hear the news; it means I'm that one step closer to marrying that musician from NYC that I'm pretend dating in my head (Just kidding :P)

Seriously; it's good to hear such a large state has legalised it. It's another step (on the endless staircase) closer to a more gay-accepted society in the US.

Oh really? I'm late... Well, then it's about time. You'd think that it being New York and all, they would have done it sooner.

    Well, good for them.

This can only be a good thing. New York being as it is, other states could well follow suit, and that would be a fantastic step forward for everyone. Here's hoping that homosexuals and indeed everybody else can finally have the rights they deserve.

My first thought was: 'Oh, higher divorce rates over all then.' You can tell i'm a true romantic.

I'm not really bothered about news like this. It's a social reform law that will likely have no effect on me. Gay rights will happen unless we take a U turn as a planet, all governments will recongnise the equality of sexual orintations over time, and legally will follow. Just a matter of time.

Quite excellent news indeed. It is quite lovely to see further progress within the rights of humanity through our own eyes and lifetimes - unfolding as such before us. It shall certainly be quite good for the lovers in New York as well. Now we must simply wait until other states and political denominations begin to legalize homosexual marriage as well - a sort of hopeful domino effect.
