That probably will also mean that threads can go past 5,000 posts.

 

Currently they should be already, I've seen a site with over 10k in a thread.

Well, it was a restriction that was set because SPDude said that over 5,000 posts was a contribution to the database errors.

True but in some sections I think keeping the 5000 post limit would help.

 

Agreed. It would be more orderly for places like the Code Vault and even Forum Families to find certain posts for codes/memories.

 

Documentation is key especially for people who want to learn about the old days and or learning how to hack. It helps to go through each thread.
