Alright, so get this. He doesn't have a weapon. He just raps so hardcore, that it hurts.

Well, rap certainly has that kind of sound.

I try. There's way more, but that was the only one I could find a direct link to, haha.[DOUBLEPOST=1381012147][/DOUBLEPOST]
Yeah, I was thinking something like, not extremely beat heavy, but more focused on his flow.

I have no idea what that's supposed to mean. Rap in general is just painful for me to listen to.

    Rap isn't painful. Bagpipes are.

I've found that bagpipes can actually be pretty good if they're played well. The main problem is that hardly anyone can play them well. Rap, on the other hand, just has a sound that I find ugly. I've got nothing against people who do like to listen to it (unless they try to make me listen to it), but I can't help cringing whenever I hear that awful voice thing that rappers do that isn't singing but is clearly supposed to sound like it. Why not just recite it like poetry? Wouldn't that sound much better?

Rap is all about rhythm, and the beat accompanied with the lyrics. Sure, you have rhythmic poetry that stand up poetry people do, but it's not the same with the beat behind it.
Rap, to me, is all about levels of complexity and good rap is, someone who can combine good lyrics, good rhythm, good layers of sound with complexity and the ability to mix it into a balance is just great to hear. Good rap songs are songs you can listen back to and pick up something new about it.
Though you do have a lot of **** rap to go through, or sell out rap where the fame, money and pure success is better than the music itself. Sam for Pop, or Rock or any other popular genre.

I'm also not too sure about the rapper 'voice' you're talking about. I've heard a lot of different rapping voices, I don't really hear much familiarity between them. Beats and rhythm are consistent across the genre though.

My inability to tell one rapper from another aside, that's not really what I meant. When I mentioned "that awful voice thing that rappers do," I was referring to what they all do with their voice that makes it rapping as opposed to singing or even just talking rhythmically. I can't quite describe it because I do not know how to do it nor do I have any interest in doing it. Although I understand that there are people who like it, I am completely unable to understand why they do.

I know you won't, but if you ever hear, for example, the track Monster by Kanye West, it features four different rappers. Each uses different rhythmic rapping to the same beat, each having a unique style in their lyrics and portraying different voices. Nicki Minaj doesn't sound like Rick Ross, nor does Jay-Z sound like Kanye West. They share similar patterns of rapping and a rhythm similarities at times, but there is no standard rap voice.

Maybe it comes down to not listening to much of that genre. I think all indie rock band music sound the same, and I couldn't tell the difference between the singers, but I don't listen to indie rock for that reason.

I recognize that. What I'm saying it that whenever I have heard people rap, it's distinct from other things that people do with their voices, such as singing or talking. It's not the nonexistent "rap voice" that I find repulsive, it's the way that people use their voices when they rap.

That's probably it. It's the same thing as looking at the faces of different animals or even races when you don't spend a lot of time with them. For example, I can tell a bunch of different Caucasian faces apart easily, struggle slightly with other races, would probably just barely get by with a few species of non-human primates (bonobos and monkeys, for example), and couldn't tell two crocodiles apart if I had all the time in the world.
