Oh joy, another set of shoulder buttons that can stop working after a year of me owning it.

It happens all the time though. The original DS was succeeded by the DS lite was succeeded by the DSi. The Wii even got a mini version which didn't play Gamecube games. The PS2 and PS3 had fat versions and slim versions.

Thoughts: New build was required, the original builds have a serious design flaw where keep it closed can damage the screen. Exclusive games? No, no no. You are not treating this like a new console Ninty. Stop it. Or should I point out how sooo maaaany people who bought the DSi actually bought DSiware games?

I actually don't really mind the new 3DS, but then, I bought my 3DS at launch. It's nice to see the Circle Pad Pro integrated into the hardware. Really, I see it as an excuse to get an XL. The big issue I see with it is the name, but I suspect that Nintendo is planning to phase out the old 3DS and 3DS XL in favor of the new models. I also suspect that the 2DS will not be phased out, nor will it see a similar revision.

Also, this is exactly what people were calling for when the 3DS was first announced: a hardware revision that included the extra buttons and Circle Pad from the Circle Pad Pro. Yet another wonderful example of the Nintendo paradox.

Think of it like the Game Boy Color (which, had that been announced today, would have seen the same damn reaction as the new 3DS). It was slightly more powerful and displayed in color, but was still comparable in virtually every other aspect to the Game Boy Pocket. Some games took advantage of the extra power and could not run on the older iterations of the Game Boy, while others were enhanced by them, even if they could still run on the old hardware. Not every game required the new hardware, but virtually every game DID take advantage of it in some form.

Probably using my Tax Return money for this, for sure. Going to cost so much. At least I'll have 2 systems to mess around with Pokemon and other games that I would need two for

Actually, the New systems don't cost much more yen than the original systems, if I remember correctly, so I'm assuming the same would hold true for the other international releases.

Doesn't really mean I have the money to spare for it, which is why I say I'm using my Tax Return money. I just really want to get Xenoblade Chronicles after watching some of Chuggaconnroy's let's play of it.

Oh, and I'm just going to point out I don't enjoy having the colored buttons either.

I didn't get my precious Persona Q 3DS so I guess I'll be picking one of these new ones up. Any word on a release date for Europe? :v

Probably not too long afterwards. I expect we'll be getting official announcements for the US and Europe tomorrow, what with the Nintendo Direct and the event in California.[DOUBLEPOST=1421251062][/DOUBLEPOST]Aaand it's official. The New Nintendo 3DS XL will come to North America on February 13! Oddly, North America won't be receiving the regular-sized New 3DS, while Europe will.

However, two special edition New 3DS XL systems will be launched to coincide with the releases of Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate and Majora's Mask 3D, in addition to the launch colors of red and black.

Do, libre. It's got a fantastic library. You might still be able to find a new original 3DS; I heard they were going to be discontinued soon, though. If not, pre-owned is still an option. If you can't find one, though, and if you're not interested in an XL, the 2DS is still a pretty solid piece of hardware, even without the clamshell design or stereo sound.

I'm buying this new 3DS since it's going to have games playable on it that won't be on the older version, like Xenoblade Chronicles for one, which I really want to play now. And before anyone mentions the Wii version, I don't play Wii. Plus the second analog stick will make it easier to play some games that could play with the circle pad pro, saving you a few extra dollars. I was planning on getting the XL version anyways, so I don't have a problem with what they're doing. It's not like it's much of a difference anyways besides size, and I don't really see why that's such a bad thing and why people are complaining about it being the only option

Check out Nintendo refurb if anyone is shopping for an original 3DS; I imagine they'll keep their stock for a while and you can snag a nice deal.

I've yet to buy a 3DS but I consider it frequently (sadly I have more pressing financial concerns lol). If/when I do pick one up, I'll probably go with the new release just so that I don't miss out on any future titles exclusive to it -- but it's still a really weird move on Nintendo's part. I understand why they did it but it hasn't really worked too well for them in the past with the DSi. I do like the faceplates, though; I never dug any of the previous color options but these faceplates are really cute.

Are we not going to talk about them no longer bundling an AC adapter with the new 3DS? I know it's standard fare for them to not include them in Japan and I believe Europe, but I have a feeling this will upset a lot of consumers. I pity the retail employees who have to explain the change. It'd be one thing if the 3DS used a standard micro-USB charging port but it obviously doesn't, and someone like me, whose last Nintendo handheld was the DS lite, certainly doesn't just have an extra 3DS charger lying around... not to mention that, if someone was going to trade in their old 3DS for the new one, stores like Gamestop usually require you to trade in the charger with it. Granted, the AC adapter is only $8 when bought separately.

Maybe they figured that a lot of people would already have a 3DS and would just buy a new one so they could have the extra stuff? It's not a good idea, but hopefully they'll learn from it after this, because there's going to be plenty of complains. I have managed to trade in an old DS of mine though without the AC card, but I can't remember why. Like you mentioned though, they probably should just switch to micro-usb ports so anyone can use whatever charger they have lying around. Though the electrical output might be a considering. I doubt anything would give too much energy that it'd fry the system, but there's also the chance it doesn't give enough energy to help at all. That happened with my PS2 once when movers lost the cord and I tried using a universal one, but it didn't give enough energy to power the system at all.

Lesson today: Always sell systems with a charger to keep away from inevitable complaints
