So i've taken a break from creating signatures and given Avatars a real go. I've mostly been experimenting with curves and gradient maps. Some tips, techniques and tutorials would be very helpful.

Below are my two first attempts -

    CnC would also be appreciated

EDIT: More Avatars (Still Experimenting) -

I really like the Naruto one, but I have to ask. Isn't that just cropped from a larger image?

He probably used a filter too.

Anyway I love the Naruto avi a lot. I can't give you any tips, but keep up the good work! I think you're great already.

Hmm...well, I suggest you try to use gradients too. Not gradient maps, gradients. Which yield different results.

I'll also recommend you work a bit with textures and with other adjustments other than just gradient maps. Like the exposure, the channel mixer, and whatever you think you can experiment with in Adjustments.

I actually like the style you have, but I think the Tinie Tempah one is a bit too contrasted for my taste. Too bright it hurts. @ .@
The others are great, I really like the Kingdom Hearts ones. I'd like to know where you got such good quality stocks of them, but it's not my business. :3

That's what I was thinking XD

Still, great job on these. My fave is the riku one, even though the sora one was done very well too. All I can say is keep experimenting. The more you play with adjustments, layers, blending modes etc the more you can see what works and what doesn't depending on the style you're going for. Keep it up, Jay, these are looking great =)
