Nature's Sorrow

Xathabat snuggled against a tree and fell asleep.

Xaid peeked an eye open and saw everyone asleep so he got up he put his illusion on and walked into the city he walked into an ally way he peeked through a window to see Leon and saw he was a scientest and quickly ducked below the window.

 

Blood just finished ripping the heart out of the second fur trader he knew brad was hunting him. he was careful to not get upset as long as he was emotionless his fur wouldnt glow

 

Xemit smiled at the email. He hadn't even submitted the job request yet and he was already getting help.

"I've also received some data of a canine like creature. Come to my lab if you would like to work together.”

He then attached his lab address and sent out the reply. He then put his finishing touches on his ad and submitted it. Within minutes it was appearing on electronic boards in town

“Looking for people with good eyes for scientific research. Call 555-8462 for details”

 

Phenox opened his eyes. the pain was horrible. he whimpered and licked his paw. Phenox tried to stand up. he was a little stronger now so he was able to stand up on his own. he limped to Xathabat and layed his head in her lap. he drifted off to sleep.

 

Brad saw the ad appear on a board around town....hmm seems i might find some ally around here after all..... he stood up and he pulled out his cell phone and dialed, he waited for a response

 

Xemit picked up the phone fairly quickly "Hello, Xemit of Living Labratory. Can I help you?" Although he said this to sound professional the question was almost invalid, he did most of his comunication through email or if needed his personal phone. The person on the other end was almost garunteed to be someone responding to the ad.

 

"hello my name i Brad, im calling about your ad as you can probably tell, i would like to know what this job is" he said as he stood in the warm wind of the dusk as the sun was setting

 

"I'm conducting research regarding animals in modern day society. I’ve received evidence that they can disguise themselves as humans, and heard rumors that there are people who can see through this disguise. The ad in itself is a test to see if anyone even has this ability, but also provides the opportunity to utilize that ability if one exists. So the job could entail any number of activities but the end goal at the moment is to find and capture one of the animals to use in research.” Xemit was trying not to get his hopes up, the ad was so vague that this could be almost anyone.

 

"i... i know this will sound strange, but thats how i hunt, i am often ridiculed for shooting at humans and no one believes me, but i know, i shot one earlier today, it was a wolf who was doppleganging as a human, i wounded it badly and its illusion faded, if you have any need for me i need some work since the fur trade has been slow"

 

Xemit smiled today was turning out to be a very good day. "I would like to preform a test as confirmation but the story lines up. In fact a collegue of mine has obtained a sample of blood, likely from the one you shot. If everything checks out though, the job is as good as yours."

 

"alright, good to hear, where can i meet with you, ill show you the location, and if you like i will bring a few pelts or corpses i havent skinned yet" he said walking towards his secluded home

 

Xaid then feeling safe to look back in through the window watching the scientist work.

 

"My lab is an underground facility within the business district but the test can be preformed just about anywhere. I wouldn’t recommend you bringing animal corpses through town so I’ll let you determine the location.” Xemit spread out the photographs from earlier. He already planned to hire the hunter. If he wasn’t telling the truth then he was an inside man that he needed to have his eye on. To Xemit this was just another test.

 

Brad sighed "im not planning on having them in clear sight" he said as he put a large bag over his shoulder and put a few pelts in it "i dont keep anything alive, but i have a few rare pelts ive kept for my own personal reasons" he said as he walked out the door, he got to the business district "alright im in the business district, where is this underground area?"

 

seeing leon wasnt doing anything Xaid walked more down the ally he took the illision off and jumped on the roof and looked at the moon and howled.

 

“The address is 5019 42nd St. You’ll be looking for a black door with a keypad at the entrance. Hold down the 7 key for three seconds to enter." As Xemit said this he closed down various programs he had up as he created pictures for the test. There was picture of the man he chased down earlier that day mixed in with three pictures that he found and altered off the internet. The objective to see if he needed to see it in person or if an image would be suitable.

 

Brad found this door, he looked around to make sure no one had followed him or was watching, he held the button and walked inside, he turned around until the door closed behind him. he walked in to the main area "hello sir, i brought you some things you might be interested in" he took the bag off his shoulder and tossed it on the table for the scientist to see

 

Xaid kept howling for a moment but once he finshed he jumped back down the ally way and put his illusion on and walked down the street.

Xathabat started to grow cold and shivered and hugged herself."mom..." she whispered sounding affraid.

 

Leon just got done falling asleep when he looked at screen to tell the man answerd with an smile. The scientist was about to type some more but he heard an creature outside just shrugging his shoulders and continued with his e-mail. "that sounds splended ill bring the sample over and i know where the science experimentation center is located at" the young scientist typed onto the e-mail then clicked send. Stretching his arms and yawning as he stood up he got his scientist jacket back and walked out the door.

 

Xaid tried his best not to look at the moon again affriad to howl, when a someone stepped on his foot he whimped softly and went to an ally and took the illuson off licking his hurt paw whineing.
