Feel free to move this thread if it isn't in the right place.

It is the month of November. You have 30 days to write a 50,000 word novel. Gogogogogogogogo!

For those of you who don't know what NaNoWriMo is and the purpose of it, TvTropes has a great explanation.

    Official website

So who else is participating this year? I was thinking that we could use this thread as a place for people to discuss their stories, ask for comments and critique and talk about how we're going about making a 50,000 word novel.

So far, my word count is...0 BUT I've been using these past four days to come up with my idea and fleshing it out so it wasn't all a waste.

Yup. Doing this. I've been writing for a day now, finished planning on November 2. I'm so excited for this, first year doing it.

    Just finished first chapter.
    I can't stand not editing.

    How's everyone's progress?

I heard about it last year, but it was a little late into November, so I couldn't do it. So, I'm doing it for the first time this year.

I'm doing really good for now. My stratagy is simple: I write my story into a notebook and then transcribe what I have from there to my laptop for the "official daily word count". So, even though I've met the standard word count for each day, I still have some left over for the next few days to stay ahead.

My particular story revolves around fantasy, which is a fun aspect for me. Currently at 5292 words.

Doing this at my school. They have this thing where if you finish, they publish it for you.

Oh wow, it's already that time again? I didn't do it last year, but if I can actually get to doing it, I think I'll definately have more than 50000 words in mine. Right now I've got 4 chapters and 8566 words. I've been planning this story for more than a year, so I'm pretty well prepared

I'd love to do this, but I don't have the slightest idea what I'd end up writing about. I definitely have the time for it, I just haven't the slightest idea what I'd do.

Unfortunately there's no freakin' way I'll have time for this. Fortunately, it's because I'm already writing! For school. :V

I heard there's a summer version now. Writing camp or something? It's not actually a camp, they just call it that to fit with the summer theme. Dunno many details, just heard about it in passing.

I don't see why it's called NaNoWriMo. Writing a novel without serious preparation flies in the face of everything I understand about good writing. Freewriting is supposed to be practice to generate ideas, not the meat and potatoes of your work... The sentiment to get words on paper is nice, but I've always felt it's a rather superficial means.

    Well, I have one question...

I am currently writing something, though I started it (to think and to post) before November, does it count?

I would think that it would, though I've never participated in NaNoWriMo before, haha.
I'd suggest looking on the site to see, but I do think it would count personally.

Anywho, like I've said, never done NaNoWriMo before.
Too busy to do it this year too. :x

I have to say, aside from the fact I will participate next year, that I quite like the concept behind it. I do think, however, that forcing people to chug out a novel in a month is a bit much, and doesn't really leave too much time for revisions and all, but I guess it's just GETTING people to write that counts. xD

    Well, I think this doesn't count. >_<
Oh well, if possible next year who knows? It's too bad you don't have time to write! =O

I think I will participate next year, after I finish my story, I will start plaining something to next November event!

Edit: Oh yeah, good luck to everyone!

It technically doesn't count. What I'd do is just retype all you have now so you "started" it in November.

Yeah, though I don't think retype everything I have wrote would be fair, so I will wait until November of the next year to start to type a new story (and I hope this has over 50,000 words!). I'm already very busy with one story, with two I will be lost! But I'm looking forward to write something next year. :)

I've always felt that the point behind NaNoWriMo was more to get people to productively write than anything. Writewritewritewritewritewritewrite and then edit and revise and really polish it after you have the structure and bones of the story. I did this last year, but didn't make it past 2,500 words. I'm a sucker for short prose and poetry, I suppose. My friend is well over 10,000 words right now, though, and I'm cheering her on by bringing her hot tea in between sessions. As something else to get me off my lazy bum I've been writing at least ten poems (three lines or more in length) every day.

I got over 10K yesterday, meaning that I'm behind. Sure, conventions are fun and everything, but you really pay for it if you're doing NaNoWriMo. So, I'm going to try to catch up this weekend (hopefully). I have a three day weekend, so I should get a lot of writing done.

Why are you behind? I got my four chapters done in a day, and it already got me over 8000 words. I mean, if I actually had the drive(and no school) I'd probably already be almost done with my story

Not everyone works the same way. I was on track until last weekend, when I went out to a convention for two days that lasted ALL DAY, meaning I had no time to write anything. College work is also piling up, being near the end of the semester, and all. I do have the drive to finish it, but I work at my own pace, and I have too many distractions in my life. Like I said, I have no school on Fridays, meaning that I can use it as a catch up day.

I was doing it, but I just don't have the time anymore ; ; I got up to 1300 words my first night but then I sstarted to realize how little time I had xD
Though where I work, NaNoWriMos like to come in and write.

Am I the only one on KHV who still stayed in this things.
    4 more days to go!

Got to the goal today! Over 50K, and still going a bit further.
