Authority is non-existent without physical governance over the body or extended property of the governed. As a concept, authority comes into being only when coercive force is applied.

Voluntarily following the rules in a thread in which Dalk has no physical authority is in no way ironic to anarchist ideals.

If you have to quote a dictionary at me which is based on the usage applied by a majority of persons, then you do not understand it as a philosophy and my point still stands.

One out of one hundred people understand the philosophy behind anarchism, if that. The vast majority define it and label it, that is all. That one percent with an understanding is not enough to change the dictionary definition.

Consider, if you will, that anarchists are one of the only groups that it is still almost universally considered socially acceptable to pick on, ridicule and bully. Any dictionary definition is going to reflect an idea that is readily accepted by almost everyone. If society is almost entirely hateful or misunderstanding of anarchists, then its definitions will be as well.

The truest definition of anarchy is "voluntary order". An absence of a ruling body does not imply that those in that area are anarchists, and where there is not a majority of anarchists there can be no anarchy.

That just seems like a silly idea to me, and I don't think it would be nearly as efficient as the systems found in most countries today.

What exactly do you think most countries today are efficient at? What is the goal you are aiming for?

Most people make the mistake of assuming that anarchism would operate as a nation, covering a certain geographic area, and that nationalism would still exist. If the US were a free society, 9/11 would only have affected the people in that area. There would be no national pride, no centralization.

A lack of centralization will not decrease the efficiency of the individual in their life. It would actually increase it, because each person is better suited to do what they have grown up learning to do than some suit far away. You do not need a coercive monopoly to run a business or build a road. If you could explain what task you seek to complete efficiently, we could move on.
