According to this article, people with certain intials have an impact on their life. For instance, someone with a name starting with 'C' or 'D' would have worse grades than a person's name starting with 'A' or 'B'. As for sports, people's names with 'K' would mean that they do better at baseball than others, somewhat based on the "subconscious mind."

In my point of view, I don't think a name will matter. Just because your name starts with a 'C' or a 'D,' it doesn't matter - it only depends on the intelligence within your brain. However, if you believe in it, subconsciously, you will do worse because that's what you believe. Otherwise, I don't think it matters. Also, as said in the interview:

So, according to the quote by Nelson Simmons of Yale University, this only happens when you want to match your initial, or your name is influencing you somehow. I believe if you're truly confident and not caring about whether your name's initials, then what letter your name start with, doesn't matter - it only does when you believe in that.

    What's your opinion?

Uh. No, not for me. My name starts with a G (whatever that means, but I don't really care. lol).

Sounds like someone making a big deal out of something that probably means nothing. O_O

    No offense. Lol.

EDIT: And oh yeah, because my name starts with a G that means I'm supposed to do worse right? o.o Because... I get straight A's. ^_^

This really is no different to me than people who try to compare numbers and say there's a solid sequence and so events happen that way all the time etc. A name can be important, which is why parents go through and choose one often that fits a child as they see it, but really, if we look for things to happen, they will. Those with the name K obviously do not all do well in sports or we'd have a lot less people of other beginning letters there. Those with C or D names obviously do not do poor in school just because of the names or else those with A and B names would always be the ones going to Harvard etc. This is what in science would be termed as skewing evidence because if you look to find something, surely you will find it. If you approach something neutrally, you can see things more clearly. I would say this is rather true as in 'sometimes it is correct' because obviously some people with Cs and Ds in names will do poorly in school, but I would also say that evidence would suggest that if I took the time to say students with Cs and Ds in their names do 'well' in school while children with As and Bs as the first initial do not, I could find just as much supporting data.

Also, the article suggests correctly that it is a 'psychological' thing so students that are 'told' that their initials will make them get poorer grades or make a correspondence on their own to such rationale will probably do poorer automatically because they believe in it. If kids are told that Ks make them better baseball players...well they will have the ambition to perform better at baseball and put forth more of an attempt. It's a psyche game so that's really all this proves to me; not really that the letters have importance, but some people are 'making' them mean more important things than truly they do to get kids to be a certain way.

Soo... if my name would start with an S I'd have a better Sex life or what? Oo?

Names can have a certain bearing on what other people think about you, but that's only until they actually get to know you. Initials? Blah! My name starts with an "Ł". 5$ if you find out what I'm good at by that.

Odd enough I have two friends, one with the 'A' and the other with the 'C', that would apply to this theory. Though in all honesty I don't believe it has to do with initials, it's most likely just coincidence.

I can see what they are trying to explain, but its not true. I twould only work if you associated something like 'A' meant you think your gifted, 'B' meant you think you aren't gifted.
It would only apply to the state of mind the person had, and thought letters were significant, but a large majority of people would never think this.

I start with T...so does that mean I'm good at Tennis? o_O since I suck at Tennis, i doubt it xD I'm pretty good at Batminton though. :/

Anyways, I don't think so. I think people come up with these things because they NEED a reason to live life, instead of just doing it. They want something more special to say about themselves...i tihnk.

I've never really thought about this. But it obviously dosn't apply to everyone, My best friend Debra never gets less than an A-. Wheras my name starts with an A, and I get A's and B's. It's only if you let your initials affect you.

I don't think this is right because my initials are AA and I got G's and Fs at school (luckly I'm working at C+ in college lol) so I think it's all down to how hard you work (since I didn't work hard in school)

This study has a great deal of it's purpose founded in a social psychological phenomenon called implicit egotism, which basically outlines that we favour or try as best as we can to associate things with ourselves-- in most cases we tend to associate positive things with ourselves. There are certainly a lot of leaps that this study makes, but they more or less showed a general trend involving how we perceive ourselves and the integration of that perception into the world around us. Of course they don't mean in any way to say "because you have these letters for your initials, you'll do good on such and such a thing and poorly on other things" because that's just impossible. It should be more or less taken that what and how we do is greatly influenced by what we associate ourselves with.

Yeah, as far as I'm concerned initials have little impact on peoples lives.

Your initials aren't something that can affect you. It's who you are as a person, really. Simple.

Lol, the biggest impact my initials have is when people call me conceited cause my initials are "ME" xD

Its just a name, it has nothing to do with your intelligence, unless you belive in all of these random theories random people have.

My name starts with a D and my grades are fine, I mean Fs are way better than Zs on my report card, right?

That is really strange, both my names (first and last as i do not have a middle) start with C and i'v been getting B's all year - that's just a random thing to make the scientists look like they're doing they're job

Well, actually...I believe (as I have said before, and as Repliku and several others said in simplified version XD) that your name initials has nothing to do with it. It's only a matter of whether you believe it. Like a mental suggestion sort of thing. Otherwise...it doesn't matter one bit, especially if you don't believe it. Other times, it's just a coincidence.

i think grades influencing someone is absurd(no offense to you nymph). my first intial starts with a Z and i get good grades. This sounds as absurd as Zodiac signs(which are not always true as a some people now). no name initials don't influence me, or confine me from getting good grades.

  17. thats prepostrous, I have a girl in my class whos initals are C,D whos gets straight A's

The only way this theory would apply to me would be by my interests. I didn't make the best grades in school (my initials are TMM) but my grade point average was ALWAYS a little higher than a 2.5 which is average.

    But I love tuna salad.
And I absolutely love music so yeah the double M makes sense.

But anybody could think of something that they enjoy that matches their initials.

So basically... I don't believe this.

A names a name. It's what your parents choose to call you, and what you shall be called for the rest of your life (unless you are a girl and get married, but that's your last name. Oh, and there's the fact if you change your name.) It shall not change your future, but it is wierd because my name starts with an "A" (No, my name is NOT Alexa. I wish my name was Alexa, so I made my username Xaale after that cause it was the first name I liked that came to mind.) I get A's a lot (on my recent report card my I got 4 A+'s, 2 B+s, and the rest were A's.) and on some tests I get B's. Once in a blue moon I'll get a 79 or a 78. But I still don't believe name changes fate.

Seriously though, lets not read too much into this. It's simply a matter of perception at the time. People find all sorts of outlets and reserves of positivity in things that they can associate with themselves. It's simply an arbitrary social phnomenon that helps us learn more about ourselves. Objective reports can never truly identify or relate to a single individual.
