Give it into sony and ask them to replace it.If you haven't done anything to it to do this you deserve a replacement.I did it and they replaced mine.I don't know why it would be doing something like that. The stop button is fingerprint operated.

First, you should check to see if the sensor is clean, that might be why.

Put it on a memory stick using the backup utility on the XMB but note your PSN E-mails,passwords,etc because that won't save on.Send the PS3 to the nearest sony center and ask them could they replace it.

I would like to guess that moving your data onto USB sticks would suffice, and just move them back onto your new PS3 later. But that is if they decide it would be better to give you a new PS3 altogether.

Regardless, it would be best to ask Sony about whether or not there is a way to preserve your data in the case that you need a new console. It makes no sense to me that Sony would not consider cases of this happening since console replacements is not a foreign solution in the industry. I'd like to think they'd have a solution for you.

But again, I would like to imagine USB sticking would work, but I'm unsure about whether or not game data is linked to your console the same way it is for the 360 and Wii.

Actually, that time limit only works when your PS3 is idling. It's a power save feature, so if the PS3 is not being used for a certain time, then it automatically shuts off.

The OP is saying he's "trying to play" but the PS3 keeps shutting off. If you're playing your PS3, that time limit will never kick in until you start idling.

Thanks for all your advice everyone. But I was thinking should I take my PS3 to best buy and see if they know whats wrong with it. My tech knowledge is at zero.

I don't want to buy a new PS3 those things are still expensive. There has to be a way a tech idiot like me can fix the PS3 he was or manage to get a new one for hardly any cost.

First off, it might not be an issue at all with the ps3, is the area you have it well vented for airflow?

My friend kept his INSIDE his entertainment unit in his dorm and it did this same exact thing after awhile. Make sure its got pletny of space on the vents to allow airflow, it could be a case of overheating....

If this doesnt work, I would suggest using a usb stick to save all of your game data. If you need to, call Best Buy, and ask their Geek Squad, though I would advise against using Geek Squad/FireDog/etc, as their labor fees are way over priced IMO. I know that when I worked for BB's Geek Squad, we didn't really mess with consoles, it was kind of an at call thing, we would do it if we felt like doing it, and avoid it at all other costs. Things could have changed, its been a year and a half. Also, look in your owner's manual for a Customer Service helpline from Sony, and talk to a representative there.
