I've been using my PC a lot more than my PS3 lately, but now while it is getting repaired that is like all I want to do.

A lot of people talk about the fat ones like you should count yourself lucky if you get 2 years out of it, but mine was from Christmas launch year and this is the first significant issue I've had.

I think that reaches a point where you're not so much taking care of your console as you are fixing the companies' mistakes I:

I misread YLOD as YOLO and I thought
"You want the YOLO, you need the 4, yo"

I was just discussing this with someone the other day.
It really bugs me to see people show flagrant disregard for their technology.
Maybe it's because I take care of mine to the point of paranoia (because I seem to break things easily), but seeing someone treat their technology without appreciation for its value is somewhat disconcerting, like my sister who leaves her 3ds on the floor.

not to imply that you're like this mixt lol

I mean, isn't it both? If you care about your console, you'll care enough to make it live.

I have separate HDDs for Xbox 360 to back up arcade games and DLC + saves separately. I keep my consoles in open areas. I clean them and spray them with compressed air. I gave my GamePad and 3DS their own shelf and they're always in their docks. The only thing I can't take care of are controllers because dumb

Cloud backup instead of external drive but same deal. Monthly-ish clean out at the ports with a can, vertical stand on a desk for airflow, not on for too long. I even sent mine into gophermods for preventative maintenance in like 2011 I think (better clean out, new paste, stuff I could really do myself if I was willing to open it up). Sooner or later it's just going to die anyway.

I mean YLOD is normally an overheat, but mine shutdown fine and I even had it fully off so I could use the controller on my PC without waking it up. Went to boot it and it was just "lol. *****, I don't think so"

Yeah, I can't speak with any authority on this, but someone told me that the fat PS3's crappy thermal compound causes debris from like shaved pieces melting off and they go into other parts. Don't know a thing about that, however.

That moment when you're hoping the screen went dark because someone hit an electric poll ... nope, YLOD.

I just realized my PS2 is nearing 15 years old and still kickin' c': if only I could say the same for my PS1...
