My mother is going to make me start paying rent when I turn 21.

Which is fair, I suppose.

Although it would be nice if said rent was significantly lower than the rent of all the apartments in town.

 

Well, from what I understand the rent is like 100$ less than most of the apartments in my area. But that's still like 500$ a month. And I'm still looking for a job.

Been paying since I was 18, im only an apprentice so I pay what I can, would like to pay more if it was feasable.

My parents said that as long as I did my responsibilities as an adult, I would never have to pay to stay at their house.

 

My parents are moving out of our house in about a couple of years and will be moving to another state.

Which, I suppose is a subtle way of saying "start finding a place now."

Been paying rent for about a year now. $150 a week.

 

I pay rent when i have full time employment.

Otherwise, I pay for everything myself except food.

So... yeah.

 

My parents haven't said anything about me paying for rent yet, but I can feel it coming. That's probably why they're pushing me to get a job so hard - so I can give them my money.

 

I am all of a sudden very thankful that I don't pay rent... then again I make about £10 a week at most with a tutoring job O.o so I doubt I could pay much anyway.

 

My folks don't make me pay rent because they know saving up money is the only way they're gonna get me out of the house

 

I hated being a freeloader even before this thread. The only reason I don't hate myself for it is that I know I'm going to move on as soon as I get a job. The only reason I don't hate myself for not being able to get a job is that I've been forcing myself to stay immature for years. Someday, somehow.

 

If it's the same cost to live in an apartment, why don't you just move out?

My Mam usually only makes me pay rent when I have a job, which I don't atm. When I do, she only takes 15% of what I earn. Considering myself lucky.

Where are you even supposed to get $500pcm without a job..? I just.. what

My mom doesn't expect me to pay rent but when I do have money, I am expected to pay for my own expenses and help with some bills. When I'm broke, I'm a freeloader. >>
