He went last night with my older sister and mom and said that he had to make a quick stop, but he didn't say it was to the hospital. My little sister and I were left at home alone all night. There was a massive snow storm so the power flickered all night. It was really sad because my little sister was crying a lot for the first few hours. Then she calmed down and fell asleep. It was really hard but I had to be strong for her and not cry. (which is hard because I'm a cry baby) My sister and my mom came home today without my dad at 7 in the morning. They said he had pnemonia. We just heard a few hours ago that my dad was going to go into surgery to remove fluid around his heart. I'm kinda concerned that there might be a complication. They;re going to operate around my dad's HEART! Is it normal for fluid to be there when you have pneumonia? If any of you have had anything like this it be great if we can compare. I just really hope that He'll be okay. If he died a huge part of me would die along with him.
Oh, I'm sorry. There are complications that can happen with any surgery, but he is probably operated on by a specialist. They tend to tread carefully around organs. Pnuemonia, as far as I know, is where fluid is in the lungs or heart, and makes it difficult to breathe. It is more serious when you are either younger, like a kid, or older, as in grandparent old. Middle aged people have a better chance of recovering.
Lol, a bit pessimistic there, are we ? :'P sure complications can happen, but with a team of specialists around who knows what they're doing, accidents rarely happen. Especially not with common operations on known diseases that they've worked on before. :-) And I thought pneumonia was a lung disease ? ( I could be wrong since I had to translate the word)
Well, complications are always possible, and if he stays in the hospital for too long (weeks or months), the odds go up. BUT! - Pneumonia has been treaded for generations, and we have been doing pneumonia operations for almost as long - these people know what they're doing. I would think the only thing your family has to worry about is the hospital bill.
Well it's a common disease, and I don't think it's the first time something like this has happened. And I'm sure the experts know what they're doing, so let's hope for the best ;-)
My dad just got out of surgery. My mom got a call from the surgeon that they drained 2 liters of fluid from around his heart. 2 LITERS that's like a those 2 liter coke bottles. They have to grow the liquid I think for months. I don't exactly know when he's going to come home. But at least they said he was okay, and that he was in recovery. I'm really concerned about my mom. She's trying to be strong but I know how worried she is.
That good, that he's gonna be okay. I've heard some stories from my dad's work, but two liters? wow...just be there for your mom, and make sure she knows she has you to support her, and your sister too.
The more they get out, the better. If they removed all that, there is not much chance that they missed any of it, is there?
They got most of it out and the stuff they missed will come out through a tube that was connected to that area. It's all gone now thank goodness but unfortunately my dad might have to stay a little longer than I expected. They're going to grow the liquid and try to find out what he has. My mom feels better now that dad is returning to his old self but we still don't know what it is. They took a lot of blood to run just about every test they could on him. I hope he comes out soon though. Going to the hospital every day to see my dad is terrible when I'm tired. I fell asleep on a lobby couch and I didn't talk with my dad as much as I wanted to. Also my Grandma is coming from about 2,000 miles away to take care of my dad while my mom's working and I'm at school. She's going to prepare foods that my dad is allowed to eat (He's on the renal diet so if any of you know about it please post). I'm glad about that because we've been eating takeout since my dad was admitted and I'm feeling some pounds coming on.
Awww... well I didn't get to post when this started happening, but I'm glad everything seems to be getting better! :glomp: I hope your dad has a nice recovery, and I'll be praying for you and your family. Everything seems like it should be fine now. :D
yeah it is normal for fluid to build up around the heart. If i'm now mistaken, it should either be water or blood, but your father should be fine. it really must be scary though having you father like this. he didn't tell you that he was going to the hospital because he didn't want you to worry. medical technology has really improved in recent years. so you I think your father will make it through this ;).
Thanks guys. I have good news. MY DAD'S HOME NOW! I'm so happy I feel like glomping everybody. Thank you everyone for the great advice and confort! The only change is that he has to follow the renal diet even while eating out. But it's not much of a change. by everyone. ^_^ P.S. Friendly_Heartless - thanks for the glomp. I glomp you back ^_^:glomp:
