So the power went out last night, and this morning when my mom tried to turn on the computer, it wouldn't turn on. She said it was 'fried' and i can't even get it to turn on

is there anything i can do?

If something was writing to your hard drive while the power went out -- like you were downloading something, etc. -- then your hard drive is probably dead.
If not, your motherboard could have shorted, although it usually has signs that indicate that it's heading in that direction (my old one had a motherboard short-out, and it turned off randomly until one day it wouldn't turn on again). It could have been the power getting suddenly shut off that caused it to do that, though, I suppose.

If you think its either of those you might want to bring it to a computer store and get it checked. Also, make sure the plug is in properly, because if not it won't supply enough power to make the hard drive run, lol >> That happened to me once and I freaked out...

It could just be the power plug -- if it wasn't hooked up with a surge protector, the wire could have been fried. It's most likely relatively cheap to replace those. Then again, a similar thing happened to me -- the computer was on during a storm, and the power went out. I did a System Restore and it was fine.
