Around half of this belongs in Graphic Art, not Traditional Art. You should make separate threads for different types of art.

Your signatures were made with visualizations from Windows Media Player, a few default filters, a symbol from the series, and some very badly made text. What program are you using?

Never use attachments; always upload them on a site that does no file editing, such as Photobucket or Tinypic, and always save them as .PNG (e.g. Marushi.png, and NOT Marushi.jpg, Marushi.gif, or anything else). Always.

Starting there, you should be off to a better start already. Knowing what program you use will help immensely.

Actually, in the rules it says that even digital images belong in traditional art if they aren't made for the web, which these aren't. They aren't signatures, they're just pictures that I made 'cause I thought it'd be fun. I'm actually planning on making a different thread for my signatures, and will post it soon.

Yeah, they're made mostly with media player, but what's wrong with that? I like the pretty colors, and sometimes I just sit and stare at the screen with my fav music going on in the background. What's wrong with trying to capture the essence of that and turn it into something cool to look at? As for the bad quality text, I liked it. Nice and simple, not too in your face.

I'm currently using MS Paint, all the Spark My Heart pics were made this morning when I was listening to music and staring at the screen. All the stick figures were made on MS Paint as well, except for the "I gots a Keyblade," which I drew on a whiteboard once when I was feeling bored.
The Harry Potter ones were made quite a few months ago on a program called Corel Paint Shop Pro, but I lost that program and now have to content myself with MS Paint.
The characters were all hand drawn, and the first one was edited on Corel Paint Shop Pro, but *groan* I was really bad at shadowing back then and now haven't gotten around to fixing it.

Thanks for the tip about tiny pic, I'll try and use that in the future.

Really? That makes little sense. What did you make them for, if not the web? It seems to me that your stick figures specifically were made to show to people on the web. Not sure what you planned to do with the others. I suppose the definition of 'use' is what is in question.

Allow me to introduce you to the GIMP, where all of your graphics needs are met without fear of legal troubles. Not as good as Photoshop is some respects, but the closest you can get for open source. Very similar.

There is no excuse for bad art. One can keep trying, but it is foolish to defend an obviously bad position. Note that I have not been overly insulting, I simply stated that I disliked the text. If you feel that the other statements I made are negative, then reflect inwards and accept that you yourself find them negative, and improve on them. That is what I suggest.

Well, if you look at it that way, I suppose everything I have up here is for web purposes, if wishing for people to see my work automatically makes it intended for the web. Besides, who said art has to be "used" for anything? Why can't it just be art?

Cool! Thanks, I'll totally check it out! lol, I was getting pretty sick of MS Paint. XP

lol, you do realize you just said I have bad art, right? And to try and defend my art would be foolish, because it's a bad position. I'm sorry, but that doesn't sound like you haven't been overly insulting. I agree that before that, all you said was merey constructive criticism, I knew you weren't being rude or slamming my stuff or anything. But now, you actually say that it's bad art. Not bad quality, not the use of a wrong program, but bad art itself. Your other statements weren't negative at all. Maybe if you think they might be considered negative, then perhaps you should reflect inwards and accept that you wrote them to be negative, and should try and obstain from such posts in the future. That is what I suggest.

Yes, I was aware of it. I had hoped you could tell the difference between a reference to what I previous said and what I was saying now. As I was speaking your your reaction to what I had already said, that is what I spoke of. It only follows.

It is? I rather dislike the quality and the program used, as well, but I tried to avoid such comments. If you read it again, I did not say that your art was bad art. I simply said that there was no excuse for bad art.

As for quality and the tools you use, I do believe that they factor in. If your execution is bad, then your art is by extension bad. The art is not your idea itself, but how you portray it to us; thus the term 'artfully portrayed'. Somehow who is bad at drawing and does not know which tools to use is not considered a good artist, even if his ideas are great. If that portrayal is not artful, then your art was badly done. Am I wrong?

You are a very confusing person, Makaze. You say that you had hoped I could tell the difference between what you are currently saying and what you said before. That's what I did. I took what you were currently saying, which was that I had no excuse for bad art and to defend it would be foolish, because I would be defending a bad position, and what you had said previously, which was all just constructive criticism, not really negative at all. Immediately after saying that I should keep these things seperate, you state that what you were saying currently relates to my reaction to what you had said before, that they were in fact, not seperate at all. Well, which do you want me to do? Do you want me to see a difference between your reference to an earlier post and what you said currently, or do you want me to see that your statement was made in reaction to my reaction to your first post?

Yeah. You said that I had no excuse for bad art, and to try and defend my position would be foolish, because my position was obviously bad. I don't know how you expect me to read that sentance, because no matter which way I look at it, it still says the same thing. That my art is bad.
Also, you say that you tried to avoid saying that the quality of the pic and the program I used were bad. If this is true, than what made my art bad quality? Not the program I used. Not the image itself, but the art behind it. You said yourself that you hadn't been referring to the program and quality, so it's obvious what you meant.

I know they factor in. I know that my stuff was made on a lousy program with next to no tools to use. And I agree that if an execution of an idea is bad, then the art is by extension bad. And as for the art not being my idea, well, that's probably true too. I did just copy and paste from media player, stamped a heart and lightning bolt and write my name. I agree that all I did was portray an idea a little differently than I got it. And yeah, I also know that someone who cannot draw is not a good artist, even if they have great ideas. That's why I know that art and graphic design is not the best career choice for me, and I wouldn't get very far in that field if I tried. And no, you are not wrong that my art was done badly, but that is not what you said. You said that you left the tools and quality out of it. All you were referring to was the idea itself. That means the art, not the quality or program used.

I believe you are confusing yourself. This is what I meant by reflecting inwards. Allow me to break it down.

I said that there is no excuse for bad art. I did not use the word you in that statement.

In the following sentence, I stated that you could keep trying, and I apologize, that was too personal; the pronoun 'one' would have done. Substitute it in for more clarity. I did not mean to reference you specifically with my statement.

I never stated that it was either constructive or criticism. It was, rather, a statement of fact, and a small bit of opinion in which I expressed a distaste for your text.

The reason why I ask you to separate them is because my comments were a direct reply to your own. You assumed there was something inherently wrong, and I expanded on this, explaining that if you find my objective statements to be negative, then you should improve on them. I showed you your own insecurities more than my own ideas.

I expect you to read it without taking it personally. It should be somewhat obvious, given the context of what came after, that it is entirely up to you whether or not I meant that your art qualified as bad art. Since you made it more personal, I did express personal distaste later in my post. However, this was not grounds for your reaction to the impersonal things I said previously. That is what I am saying.

I had not been referring to your art at all, that is what I meant. I meant only the concept of bad art and trying to defend it, specifically when little had been said against it.

You misinterpreted the bit about it being your idea. I meant that the art is not what you envision, it is what ends up on the paper, or screen. A 'work or art' is the result of your work, not the perfect image you had in your head. That is what I meant.

These are really cute :) You're Anime character is your own, not from a series right? It's a very distinctive design, looks interesting! One thing I would point out is that the wing seems to switch shoulders depending on which direction she's facing, but apart from that you seem to have character design down, and you can draw them in many different poses which is always a plus :) Try to practice hands maybe? I've noticed you do the thing that I do too, with hands behind their back or just fading out to avoid having to draw them XD
I don't know a thing about graphics or signatures or whatever, so I won't comment on that :)

Makaze, I don't want to get in another debate with you, so I'll just say this: I do not think that you intended to say anything against me or my art, and I thank you for any and all advice you gave, and I will try to follow said advice in the future. Thanks for telling me about tinypic and the GIMP sites, I really was getting sick of MS Paint.

Yeah, she's my own. I actually drew her for an RP I had up for awhile, based on the video game The World Ends With You, she has the wing because she's a Reaper. lol, actually, she's supposed to have two wings, I just never drew the second one in. XD
And yeah, I need to work on drawing hands. That's my worst feature.
