We all know that Square Enix has a boner for complicated plots, but what about multiple endings, with one sort of "True" ending, or canon ending?

We could have a "bad" ending where
Master Xehanort succeeds, or Sora sacrifices himself or something.

    A neutral ending where
it was all just a dream, and KH1 Sora wakes up in Destiny Islands.

Or a good, true ending where everyone's hearts are freed, and everyone lives happily ever after.

What do you guys think? Do you think multiple endings would be a good idea for KH3?And if so, what ideas do you have for the multiple endings?

I don't mind multiple endings for some games. As for KH3, I would DESPISE having multiple endings. The KH series is not something I would like to see different endings for.

    THIS THIS AND THIS!
If there was multiple endings for KH it would raise more questions rather than answer them. But if there was just ONE ending to an excellent series which never fails to entertain, it would be just right & glorious.
I too am a fan of alternate endings for games, just plz not kh3

    no

That would destroy KH3 and everything we have been building towards.

    There needs to be finality.

If there were multiple endings, I'd think there would be one true ending, and the other endings would be nothing but "what-if" scenarios. And let's say you can see those endings just by answering a question right before the very last boss battle (much like in the game Katherine), would you still be opposed to that?

    Yes.
I personally think alternate endings are lame and want there to be a defined course of events, but that's just my preference. Even if they were what-ifs, it would take away from the experience of playing this game that is supposed to be the conclusion to what we've been building to for over a decade. If it weren't KH3 maybe I could be okay with it.
And I don't want there to be any opportunity for them to contrive Xehanort back into existing after 3 and an alternate ending would be an easy way for them to do that.

This is the end of a saga(that's been a little drawn out). Multiple endings would be a bad idea. A secret ending to hint at what's next beyond KH3 is all we really need. Though, I'd actually be okay with a joke ending.

"Oh no! Xehanort was secretly Mortimer Mouse in disguise the whole time!"

I was actually thinking about this a while back. I don't think there should be multiple endings, but just one true ending, with some minor changes. What I mean by that, is something along the ending to the first Epic Mickey game. The villain is beaten in both endings and Yen sid gives a small monologue at the end to the accompaniment of different cutscenes. To the people you didn't help, it would show how they are still suffering, and to the people you did, it would show their happy ending. I would really like something like that to show up to end the Xehanort saga. Showing the fates of characters you agreed or refused to help.

Also, just for reference, here are the "Hero" and "Dark" endings to Epic Mickey. (SPOILERS)

I really like this ending monologue. Makes you really sympathize for those you refused to help.

"The funny thing about mirrors, our reflections prompt us to reflect.
On the struggles we have faced or avoided.
    How well we manage time.
    Enemies defeated or redeemed.
The ways in which we treat others.
And perhaps most important, the friendships we have nurtured or neglected"

I was not aware of this even being something that existed, because I never played Epic Mickey, but this is a neat idea that I would be happy with

But... I still am not overly fond of the idea of multiple endings, even IF they are changed. Secret endings are enough for me when it comes to kingdom hearts, because you feel like Sora will always go for the right thing, but when Sora takes the extra mile more is deserved than just the basic ending.

And... multiple endings I feel make it difficult because only one could truly be canon if they choose to continue Kingdom Hearts even after the Xehanort Saga... And even if I attempt to acknowledge that they are joke endings... they still feel like endings to me and it makes it hard for me to dismiss them.

I don't want moral choices contrived into KH this late, and I'd rather Square Enix continue to not acknowledge Epic Mickey.

I don't think a moral contrived thing would be a bad thing. Just not with Sora as the main character. If it was Riku maybe but not Sora. You know what I mean? And I know what you mean by not this late... maybe in the next Saga but not now at the end of one we have been sticking to for so long.

Don't really see how moral choices in KH can work when the morality scale is taken from Disney: satan vs angel

    Can we please not.

I really don't want another game of him questioning his morality and convictions. We've finally gotten him to a (somewhat) stable status quo, and I would love it if we could not mess with that.

As for Sora, he never questions his morality. It would be completely out of character for him to do something that would result in a "dark" or alternate ending.

I don't see how they could do a Xehanort wins scenario without it coming off as bad fan-fic. If this series had more credibility I could maybe buy the bad guy winning on some level, but when the entire driving force behind your game is power = friendship, you haven't earned something as dark as the bad guy winning imo. It's tonally something entirely different, which is why it would seem like bad fan-fic.

    Hey I said maybe!

And I have been saying the morality thing wouldn't make sense for Sora.

So to clarify: I would not mind a morality thing, I wouldn't love it. But, NOT for KH3. Another time maybe, I just want a clean cut ending, with a secret ending if we choose to go for optional bosses. Basically, how it always has been. If square wants to make things complicated, wait until after the Xehanort Saga is over.

Also to the Xehanort thing, I think Square could manage it without making it seem like a bad fanfic... but like I said I don't want a multiple ending thing to happen.

There is time travel so there is possibility of multiple endings. They already did something of the sort at Kingdom hearts re:coded.

    I am ... conflicted.

It would be nice. But at the same time, I do not think it would fit the story. There is time travel, yes. Square has pulled off multiple endings in previous games, yes. But the writing for the Kingdom Hearts series has, for the past 10+ years, been centralized with its themes and its overall direction. I typically see multiple endings in games where you get a distinct element of choice from the beginning, but from the beginning Kingdom Hearts has been plowing forward with its hopeful dandy plot and positive ethical themes without any real indication that the player has some control in their decisions. It is following a distinct story, and to give it multiple endings with little bearing in the past events would feel a bit ... flimsy. It would diminish the integrity of the cohesive end that the plot has been marching towards; all the themes, the build-up, and what have you, crashing down at the last minute to suddenly tell the player that "Oh look! You actually have a choice now!" would feel detrimental to the story.

Unless of course Nomura was planning to pull this postmodern apply-what-you-learned-from-my-story-by-choosing-your-ending from the get-go, in which case, hats off to him and I would be amused.

I think it would be interesting to have Multiple endings in Kingdom Hearts 3. However, if there are different endings, I think it would somehow end up like the Timeline for Legend of Zelda. How Nintendo has all these different paths for Link. There's the "Sora wins against darkness path." and then there's the "Sora looses at any point of his journey." which would creates a whole different timeline. But those timelines can't Co-Exist, because Sora can't both die and be successful. Which then starts the theory of parallel universes. For example, every time Sora dies, another copy of the universe is created where Sora can try again. But that other universe would still be in danger. You could probably say that with any game really. But I think with the different endings, it would be more complicated. To make a Kingdom Hearts game after that, with the different endings, you would need to made players choose a separate beginning in order from them to continue the story from whatever point was in KH3. Unless all the endings have the same outcome. Of course, if Sora died you would try again until he beat the final boss, unless Sora is MEANT to die that is. If all the endings lead to the same point, that beginning of the next Kingdom Hearts game wouldn't have to be altered. But if they didn't the story for the next KH game would depend on the ending you got in KH3. There could also be the fact that you were only meant to get one ending, the "Good" ending, and then the other endings don't really matter or effect whatever title is next.

In short, as long as there is only one ending that's Canon, it would be very enjoyable to play through.

and that would suck so bad. Besides we already know it wasn't all a dream, otherwise DDD was some serious inception!

also, I really don't think multiple endings would work, but I would love to see joke endings/extra cutscenes unlocked later of just fun and weird things. Kinda like the ending of DDD.

Moral choices have been around since KH1, bro. Remember when you're starting on Destiny Islands and all of the FF characters ask you existential questions and how your answers affect your leveling progression throughout the game?

Or the questions that Riku has to answer from Roxas, Ven and Xion at the end of DDD to trigger the secret ending?
