I've always had a little bit of trouble with .mp4 files in Vegas, but this time it's a little worse than usual. Basically, when I import .mp4 files I either get no video at all, or a black/green video feed. I've installed several codecs hoping to fix the problem without compromising quality, but it hasn't worked at all. Wondering if anyone here has any solutions?
At this point I would prefer to grab a codec than convert, but if you have a conversion method that won't murder video quality please let me know.

The codecs I currently have installed are:
    ffdshow
    DivX Pack
    DivX Plus Pack
Morgan M-JPEG Codec V3 (not entirely sure this one is working, I had to disable one a while back when it started asking me to pay for it -- didn't realize it was a trial I guess).

I'm using Vegas 7.0e. Updating Vegas isn't really an option for me, so I'm desperate xD.

    Do you have quicktime installed?

Hmm... not sure then. I know Vegas has always had a problem with some .mp4 files and DivX codec, might just be a support issue.

I had this problem some time ago, not sure if it will work for you. You right click in the video, and in the properties select "Disable resample". That's one of the solutions that worked for me, vegas has a lot of issues with its files.
Also, if I were you I'd try uninstalling Quicktime and itunes and then installing an older version of QuickTime, v7.6.2 or v7.06 will work. Don't let it update afterwards. (Instructions here http://www.sonycreativesoftware.com/forums/ShowMessage.asp?MessageID=674057&Replies=12).
But I'd like to point out that the mp4 problem is fixed in newer versions of Sony Vegas.
Also, is it Sony Vegas Pro or Sony Vegas Movie Studio you're using?

Disabling resampling didn't do anything, unfortunately. I'll try reinstalling QuickTime soon. I'm guessing a version of Quicktime newer than Vegas makes them incompatible?
I'm technically using Pro, though this version is old enough that they weren't calling it that yet (it's just called Vegas). Thanks for the help, both of you, btw. :]

    Congratz on the promotion, Stardust.
Yeah, there is this sort of incompability with newer versions of quicktime and older versions of vegas.
Let us know how it went.

Trying installing the Community Combined Codec Pack. It supports the majority of video formats used today and it's better than other codec packs because it doesn't install multiple codecs that could possibly conflict with each other and mess up your computer. I personally prefer using lossless avi files(even if they're huge in filesize) instead of .mp4 files because they're more stable to use.

Tried this last night, didn't work unfortunately x: . I still have the exact same problem. And believe me I would be using .avi files if I had them, lol.

    Thanks =].
In any case, I tried uninstalling my current Quicktime, but it got stuck on "Validating install" in the process. I'm trying it for the second time right now. >| Will update shortly.

EDIT: Mmkay, uninstallation and reinstallation of an older version went smoothly this time. Not fixed, but I haven't uninstalled iTunes yet. Before I do, do you know if it will it erase my library/screw up my iPad when I try to sync upon reinstalling later if I uninstall it? xD

I am not sure, but as far as I know you won't have problems... but ask someone who knows something more than me, I never tried something like that.
