Most Overrated/Underrated Games

What do you think some of the most overrated, and the most underrated games of all time are?

 

most overrated game: i think Metal Gear Solid 4 takes that. it was a good game but i don't get why so many people worship it.

most underrated game: that's a tough one. i'm not sure.

 

Zelda series is probably one of the most overrated games ever. I've never seen a company rehash a game so many times with little to no innovations and the fan-base eats that shit up and defends the fuck out of it.

Underrated for me would have to be Psychonauts I guess since I can't think of anything else right now.

 

i completely agree. i like zelda, but it is rehashed too many times. though, i actually think Pokemon has been rehashed more times, if you think about it, it's like playing the same game again and again (but you need 2 versions to get them all too!).

Okami and Shadow of the Colossus are underrated? since when?

 

Try to meet alot of people who know of those games. ok? I guess they are just more underground then they deserve to be.

Then again Okami is whored out here.

 

Well, there's also Pokemon. Which has done that ever since RS.

Anyhow....Overrated games? Mass Effect and Dragon Age, there's also FFXIII. There's obviously more, but I only know of a bit.

Overrated:
All the Metal gear solid games..... didn't think they where worth the hype
Dragon quest all of them I found them good and fun but the hype made me think it was something better

Underrated:
Kingdom Hearts lol
Breath of Fire
Dragon Ball Z games great for a laugh against friends and I found the storyline fun too.
Devil May Cry I loved these but they hardly got any media attention

 

overrated..dante's inferno. I thought it would've been much better.

This is my list for people I know in real life. On the internet, it's different for obvious reasons.

Overrated:
Final Fantasy VII (It's still a good game)
Call of Duty (Only time I find it to be decent, is when I'm playing with friends)
Halo (See Call of Duty)
Left 4 Dead (I only think it's decent)

It's funny how most of my underrated games are what would be considered "childish" games, at least by the people I know.

 

Overrated:
Call of Duty (its not BAD, I do enjoy the series, I just kind of find it a generic FPS, well, except the first MF, I think we can all agree that MW changed FPS's forever!)
GTAIV (Once again, I enjoyed the game, especially TBOGT add on, I just think San Andres is the best, and still to this day remains the best!)
TF2 (Awesome game, but on the PC, EXTREMELY OVERRATED! I also feel bad for the console gamers, not getting any updates, like weapons and hats, even though I hate the hats)
Fallout 3 (I ****ing love this game! I can see why its overrated also! Its so ****ing addictive! But people........it's not the best game in the world! It definitely came with its flaws, *ahem* metro stations? Yeah)
Kingdom Hearts (Trust me people, everyone I meet and talk about PS2 games HAS to include KH and KHII, I'm dead serious)

Underrated:
Psychonauts (Yeah it is idolized and the popularity has increased thanks to XBLA and review sites, but that's still not enough, if I ever have kids, I will MAKE them play Psychonauts, that's how much I love this game)

You have no idea what "underrated" means. Ratchet and Clank and Jak and Daxter are two of Sony's biggest franchises, same with Little Big Planet, Kingdom Hearts has an incredibly big fanbase and is one Square Enix's main franchises, Lego Star Wars is one of Lucas Arts' main game franchises and every single Burnout title since Burnout 2 has made the both Platinum Hits on XBox and Greatest Hits on Playstation with the exception of Burnout Dominator since that was a minor release on the PSP and PS2 when everyone was waiting for Burnout Paradise.

You want actually underrated, look at stuff like Brutal Legend, which has a loyal fanbase, but completely bombed in sales, Tron 2.0, a game that was completely screwed over by the publisher's weak publicizing or Beyond Good and Evil, which has a very similar situation as Brutal Legend.

Overrated:
FFVII, God of War, Call of Duty, Medal Gear Solid (I feel so shady since I play all these games :P)

Underrated:
Dragon Quest, Devil May Cry, Fire Emblem, Golden Sun, FFXII, and II.

 

I personally don't think Call of Duty is overrated. Does it ever deserve game of the year? No. But it can be a lot of fun. I can sit there and play team deathmatch for a very long time, and not get bored. Now, pretty much every likes to hate on every FPS that isn't also an RPG. There's a good reason why there are so many people that play Call of Duty, it's fun, plain and simple. But that's just my opinion.

Overrated:

GTA4: and only slightly overrated. I think it's one of the best games on next gen consoles, but for it to receive perfect scores is a little over the top.

Final Fantasy 7: It was a good game, but people always say it's the best Final Fantasy. It defiantly wasn't. The story is overrated, Cloud and Sephiroth are lame characters, and there were so many times like I felt like the game was just dragging on.

Underrated:
Mafia 2: The reason I list this is because everyone that I've heard play this game says it's crap. It wasn't meant to be any Godfather game mixed with Grand Theft Auto. I thought it was much better than people gave it credit for. Just because it was an open world game, doesn't exactly mean it had to be like Grand Theft Auto, like everyone excepted it to be. I thought the game had an excellent story (which reminded me a lot of Goodfellas), the combat was fun, the driving was fun, the city was well done, there were some really cool missions and unexpected twists. The ending was bad, but other than that, I thought it was a good game.

Folkore: Had a great story, and a great way of telling it. The combat was pretty fun, even though the interface was a pain sometimes. Very overlooked.

Earth Defense Force 2017: Such a fun game. It wasn't the deepest, the most innovative, or the most polished game, but it definitely was the most fun.

The Saboteur: Once again, this game was just plain ol' fun. Shooting down Zeppelins with an RPG, blowing up Nazi military compounds. It was a nice combination of everything we love from games like Mercenaries, Assassin's Creed, and others. The driving was terrible though.
